5 iPhone Fitness Apps That’ll Help You Get the Most Out of the Gym

Most people that know me know that I’m crazy about two things: technology and fitness. In the world of technology, I’ve found that an iPhone or iPod Touch can very well be your best pal in the gym and the following apps will help you get in the best shape of your life.

Videos – Pre-installed

There are countless fitness apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch, but one of the best fitness apps that you can have comes bundled with your iOS device: Videos. The Videos app is to videos what the iPod app is to music and with a little bit of “tweaking” this app will more than have your back in the gym. If you own a workout program like P90X, Insanity, Turbo Fire, Tae Bo, or any of Rodney Yee’s yoga programs, you can legally create a digital backup that can then be placed on your iPhone and taken into the gym with you. I’ve used this method to incorporate a P90X/Insanity hybrid in my gym routine and it has worked wonders.

Seconds Pro – $2.99

If you want to forgo workout DVDs and create a custom workout for the gym, yoga mat, or for jogging, Seconds Pro is a must have iPhone app. Seconds Pro is an “ultimate fitness timer” that allows custom set intervals for HIIT, Tabatta, Circuit Training, gym workouts and much more. Regardless of if you’re a marathoner or looking to shave a few pounds, Second Pro will allow you to create custom workouts, customize interval times, and even allow you to listen to music while it keeps track of your workout regimen.

Gym Buddy – $2.99

If you’ve hit a plateau in the gym, it’s likely that this might be due to a lack of tracking a preparation in your regimen. In the words of Tony Horton “How will you know what to do, if you didn’t know what you did?” Gym Buddy is the answer to this question and allows users to track the weight, reps, body area targeted, take notes, and other important info that will help users chart their gym experience and point them in the right area to avoid getting stuck in a plateau.

Once you factor in the price of your gym membership, workout clothes, supplements, and other fitness expenses, getting that killer body that you’ve always dreamed of can get quite pricey.
