There will always be a call for volunteers in the world because someone or something will always need help. Unfortunately some organizations don’t get all the volunteers that they need. If you have some extra time, even if it’s only a couple of hours a week, any of the organizations listed in this article could use your help.

Volunteer Opportunities in Charlotte, North Carolina #1: A Child’s Place

A Child’s Place helps homeless children. Volunteers are needed for the following positions: Summer Camp Volunteers (you’ll help instruct children who go to Summer Camp), Lunch Buddy (you’ll be assigned a child and you’ll have lunch with them at school once a week, talking with them, etc), Tutors (help kids with schoolwork). Snack Provider (bring healthy snacks as often as you’d like), Birthday Sponsor (make a child feel special on their birthday by brining a small gift and cupcakes), Classroom Assistants (help a teacher during a certain period of time with various tasks), Family Enrichment Activity Coordinators (provide an activity for families, such as a sporting evening, visit to a museum, etc), Friends of A Child’s Place (join the auxiliary group to help raise funds for A Child’s Place) and On Call Volunteers (help with special events, etc). Charlotte Art League is located at 1517 Camden Road in Charlotte. If you have a love of art, you may want to consider volunteer with the Art League. Volunteers are needed to help with the exhibits (prep work, labeling and more). Depending on what your talents are, they’ll find the right area for you to work in. You have a chance to make a difference in a child’s life when you volunteer with the Alexander Youth Network. As a volunteer, you can be a mentor, a tutor, lunch buddy or a Recreation Volunteer (work with kids in residential areas in various programs). If you’d prefer not to work directly with the children, you can also be an office volunteer and help with such stuff as mailings, data entry, phones and more. The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte helps local area senior citizens and they need volunteers to help with various tasks. Some of the positions available are: Drivers (drive seniors to appointments during the month), Handymen (do light repairs to seniors homes), Office Volunteers (take service orders, answering phones, data entry, etc), Meal Delivery (deliver hot meals to seniors), Teachers (teach various classes at The Shepherd’s Center) and more. Phone Center Volunteers (answer calls from agencies and schools and evaluate clients to see if they truly need food), Pantry Volunteers (work at a food pantry bagging, etc) and Delivery Crew (deliver food to the food pantries) are just some of the volunteer opportunities at Loaves & Fishes. Hospitably House is located at 1400 Scott Avenue Charlotte, NC 28203. They provide a place to stay for family members that have someone in the hospital. It is much more comfortable then staying at a hotel and they want everyone to feel welcome. As a volunteer, you can help staff the house (checking in guests, chores, etc), Provide a Meal (cook a meal for the several guests that are staying at the house at that time), Food Shoppers (shop for groceries), Supplies Shoppers (shop for supplies), Groundskeepers (assist with gardening etc) and more.
