The Top Home Cures: Treat Sickness the Way Grandmother Did with Home Remedies

Many people have gotten back to treating themselves with home remedies. Some either have bad reaction to prescription, or over the counter drugs, or simply prefer keeping it natural. If you are one of those individuals, take a look at the top ten home cures listed here.

Headaches – With the stress of the world we live in, headaches are a common malady for most now days. Headache remedies leads the list for the number one complaint in search of one of the top home cures. Did you know if you have a headache that a good foot rub is usually the relief you are looking for? This is a form of acupressure, which is a means to treat headaches. The area where pressure should be applies is the area on the sole of the foot, where the toes begin.

Muscle Soreness and Muscle Tension – The home cure remedy for muscle soreness and tension is to apply a frozen bag of vegetables or a bag of ice to the tense area for relief. Keep applied to the affected area for about five minutes.

Stiff Neck and Joint Pain – Sometimes joint pain in general is due to a lack of potassium. Such is the case sometimes with a stiff neck. Where over the counter potassium is available, though it may be limited to 99mg each, there are food products that can supplement your potassium levels. A few products can be bought over the counter. Otherwise potassium is found in potatoes, squash, bananas, and orange juice which is certain a natural means of a home remedy.

Back Pain – This is a biggie! This is a home remedy everyone needs to be aware of sometime or another. First of all make certain you are providing correct support for your back. Check your postures and your shoes. If suffering from back pain this could be a sign of poor support in your shoes. Cushion your feet properly by inserting cushions in your shoes. For knots in the back, gentle massage is helpful.

Toothaches – I’ll bet this home remedy will bring back memories from days gone by. Use clove extract for toothaches. This should be available at most drug stores. My grandmother applied it with the tip of cotton swab to the sore area of the mouth as a local painkiller.

Sore Throat – For sore throat gargle with salt water. Another alternative for sore throat is gargling with mint tea.

Cold and Flu Symptoms – This is one of my favorite home cures. Section a grapefruit and boil in water. Add honey and drink. This is an immune booster. Use Vicks Vapor Rub for congestion the way “Grandmother” did back in the day. Rub it on your chest, and wrap your chest in a towel. You can also put some in a pot, boil it, cover your head with a towel and inhale it.

Hangovers – For those who experience hangovers, try the tried and true method of tomato juice and Tabasco sauce.

Nausea – To treat nausea drink the juice from canned peaches.

Acne – To treat acne mix together coarse salt and neem oil as a facial scrub, and apply the way you would a regular store bought scrub. Once completed apply yogurt to the face to be used as an exfoliant.

Mosquito Bites – Crush regular aspirin and water to create a paste and apply to bites.

Itchy Rashes and Stings – Take an antihistamine to soothe the effects of stings and rashes.

Burns – To treat minor burns use a cold compress soaked in black or green tea to soothe the sting of the burn.

Food Poisoning – Burned toast and black tea are said to neutralize toxins. It is the combination of the charcoal from the burned toast and the tannic acid from the tea that create the neutralizing effect.

If you know you have a medical condition, consult your physician. This list of top home cures is not to be used in lieu of medical advice. It is simply a handy list for a quick and inexpensive, temporary solution to a minor medical problem. Keep in mind it is a home remedy and not a medical treatment. Be sensible and if in need of medical care, seek professional medical care.
