The Many Uses of an Orange

Oranges make great juice but there are many other uses of an orange.

Here are some natural ways to freshen your home and yourself using ingredients straight from the kitchen.

Help deter a Cold:

Add honey to fresh squeezed orange juice and warm water. This will calm coughs and helps to soothe a scratchy dry throat. This is also a great source for Vitamin C which is great for a cold.

Slice an orange and eat it too helps give you lots of Vitamin C when you have a cold.

All Natural Garbage Disposal Refresher:

Slice one orange into quarters and pop it down into the disposal and zap it. Your garbage disposal will smell sunny fresh.

Homemade Orange Juice:

All you need to make a fresh pitcher of orange juice is: One cup of sugar or to your taste, and a pitcher of water, and the juice from two oranges. Mix well and stir then pour over a glass of ice. Enjoy!

Natural Fly Repellant:

If you are having a picnic or a barbeque and the flies are being a pest you can slice a few oranges into quarters and place them around several areas of the table along with a sprig of mint.

Natural Air Freshener:

Dissolve ½ cup of baking soda with 2 cups hot water and add the juice from one orange. Pour into a spray bottle and shake well.

Lavender and Orange Air Freshener:

Add the juice from one orange into a spray bottle and then add 4 drops of Lavender essential oil. Shake well.

Acne Face Wash:

Wash your face thoroughly first then mix 2 tablespoons of salt with enough orange juice to form a paste. Apply to the blemishes and leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse well with cool water.

Energize Drink:

Instead of beginning your morning with caffeine from a cup or two of coffee you can add a slice of orange to a cup of hot water.

Orange and Lavender Body Scrub:

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup sea salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons orange juice

1 tablespoon honey

4 drops essential lavender oil

Mix ingredients in a bowl until it looks like a paste. Massage into skin then rinse well with warm water. This works the best if you take a shower before applying.

Natural Homemade Foot Scrub:

¼ cup sea salt

¼. Scoop up some of the scrub with your fingers and massage onto your feet. Wrap your feet in plastic wrap and leave on for 15 minutes and then remove plastic wrap and rinse well with warm water.

Lavender and Orange Foot Scrub:

10 drops Lavender essential oil

¼ cup sea salt

½ orange

Mix ingredients in a bowl to form a paste. You can add more sea salt if needed. Massage the scrub onto your feet and wrap them in plastic wrap or you can use a plastic grocery bag. Leave on for 10 minutes and remove plastic and rinse well with warm water.

Natural Facial Scrubs:

¼ cup honey

¼ cup orange juice

1 drop essential lavender oil

Mix ingredients in a small bowl. Apply to the face using a cotton ball or your fingertips. Rinse well with warm water.

Orange facial scrub:

¼ cup sea salt

Orange

Add enough lemon juice to the sea salt to form a paste. Massage onto the face with a Q-tip or your fingers. Rinse well with warm water.

Homemade Facial Mask:

¼ cup honey

1 tablespoon olive oil

½ Orange

Mix ingredients in a bowl and massage into the skin using your fingertips. Leave on the face for 15 minutes then rinse well with warm water.

All Natural House Cleaner:

One cup baking soda

One Orange

Dissolve the baking soda in hot water in a small bowl and add the orange juice. Pour into a spray bottle and shake well. This is great to use on countertops and appliances. It also cuts grease.

I use many of these homemade ideas for myself and my home and they have worked for me and plus they give me an eco-friendly way to pamper myself and they help protect the environment.
