Terrific Turtle Themed Snacks for Kindergarteners

Are your children giant turtle fans? Have they been busy studying the reptiles in school? If so, you may want to kick around the idea of serving them a turtle-rific snack. Here’s a passing glance at a handful worth making:

Sea Turtle Fruit Kabobs

Sea turtle kabobs made with green fruits are definitely one snack to consider serving your kids. In order to make the kabobs, you’ll need a sea turtle cookie cutter, sugar cane skewers and green fruits. Fruits that I would recommend utilizing are honeydew melons, green grapes and kiwis. Simply slice the honeydew melons into pieces. Next, use the cutter to make sea turtle shaped pieces of melon. Then slide the sea turtle shapes, along with the other green fruits, onto the sugar cane skewers. When you’re done, serve the kabobs to your kiddos alongside a bowl full of blue gelatin.

Green Tea Muffins with Frosting

You may also want to consider making a batch of green tea turtle muffins with green tea frosting. You can find a recipe for the muffins posted on The Path of Tea website. The Food website contains a recipe for the green tea frosting. Once you’ve finished baking the muffins, fill a pastry bag with the green tea frosting. Next, pipe the frosting on top of the muffin. Then insert two almond slivers into each side of the frosting to represent the turtle’s legs. Continue by inserting another almond sliver into the icing to represent the turtle’s head. Then add a small piece of green apple sour licorice straw into the frosting to represent the turtle’s tail. Afterward, serve the muffins to the kids.

Turtle Crackers

Turtle crackers are another snack option to consider. There are a few different ways to make the treats. However, most of the recipes call for cherry tomatoes, cheese, crackers and olives. You can find one recipe posted on the Kraft website and another posted on the RITZ website. Personally, I prefer making the RITZ version of the snack. I think that it looks better than the Kraft version.

Cocktail Franks in Pastry Dough

Lastly, you may want to whip up a batch of turtles made with cocktail franks and pastry dough. It’s based on the crescent dog recipe posted on the Pillsbury website. There are three differences between their recipe and mine. First, I use cocktail franks instead of regular hot dogs. Second, I use the crescent roll dough to create turtle shell shapes around the cocktail franks instead of wraps. Third, I typically leave one end of the cocktail frank exposed, not two. When you are done forming the turtle treats, bake them like you would the crescent dogs. Then serve them to your children.
