“Guess What’s in the Box” Party Game

Most everyone plays games at a child’s birthday party, a bachelor or bachelorette party, and other occasions. It’s fun to play games and give prizes to some of the guests. It gets everyone in a good mood and also offers small gifts to some of the people who attend the get-together. There’s one game that’s suitable for nearly any party or special occasion. “Guess What’s in the Box” is easy, fun and rewarding.

It’s fun to put the simple game together. Just find a box with a lid. It can be anything from a small matchbox – that slides open and shut – to a much larger box. Put as many things as you want – or as many as will fit – into the chosen box but write them down as you place them in the box.

Some things that will fit into a tiny box include a stick of gum (you might have to fold or roll it but keep the wrapper on), a safety pin, nail, tack, change, a wrapped candy or even a a folded dollar. It’s much easier, of course, to find things that can fit in a large box. Things that can be used to fill a larger box include a balloon, a pillow, or even an inexpensive product that comes in a sizeable box.

Make a list of the things you put in the box then add more things to the list that aren’t in the box. If you put ten things in the box make a list that has 20 or more things that might or might not be in the box. Create a master list that shows what is really in the box. Some choices the guests can have, concerning what isn’t in a tiny box, can include staples, a length of floss, a product sample, a cough drop or even a couple of tacks.

To play the game, hand out the checklists to the guests, have them write their names on them, then ask them to place a checkmark beside each item they think is in the box. It’s up to you if you want to allow the guests to pick up the box, shake it, or further inspect it before the game begins. After starting the game, give the guests just a couple of minutes to guess what’s inside. Everyone has the same advantage because it’s a game of luck and not skill.

The person who guesses the most correct items is the winner of the box. For a tie, you can have a second box which contains only one item, and let the guests take turns guessing – from a list – until one person guesses correctly. Or, you can just have the people involved in the tie guess a number between “1” and “20”.

The “Guess What’s in the Box” game is a whole lot of fun and can be made to contain many nice things or some inexpensive, simple things. The winner – and the rest of the guests – will have a blast!
