Wood skewers
Old pair of Stockings
Candy Thermometer
Double Broilers
Pot Holders, Scissors
wooden spoons
Old Clothing or An Apron ( all these materials can be found in one of your local craft stores),
fire extinguisher

Safeties first make sure that you have a fire extinguisher handy when making your own candles since you are working with some flammable materials.

How To Make Your Scented Candle

step 1: Melt your wax in the double broiler on a stove top. When wax is in liquid form add your dyes and scents. When adding dyes they might not come out as bright if you do not put a few drops in. It is best if you want the colors to come out really dark add 3-5 drops in the wax. The scent is all up to you, you can add more to the candle if you want the scent to be a little stronger when you burn it.

Step 2: Place the wick in the bottom of the mold and tie the wick to the handle of a wooden spoon. Make sure that when you put the wick in the bottom of the mold that you have the flat metal piece at the bottom of the candle.

Step 3: Tilt the candle mold and pour in the wax, making sure to leave a couple of inches from the top of the mold.

Step 4: Tap the mold gentle on a counter top or flat surface to make sure that you get all of the air bubbles out of your candle. The more bubbles you can get out of your candle the better because it will burn a lot longer without any bubbles.

Step 5: Poke skewer down alongside the wick, this will help get out all the air bubbles that might have formed there.

Step 6: Use any extra wax that you have left, to the top of the mold because it might have shrunk while cooling. The wax in the broiler might have cooled down while you are waiting so you might have to cook it again to make sure that it still in a good liquid form for pouring.

Step 7: Put the mold into the refrigerator for about 10-20 minutes till the candle is all the way cooled down.

Step 8: Take candle out of the refrigerator and turn it upside down and the candle should easily slide out. It is best to have something soft for your candle to land on when you are taking it out of the mold. If you try and take it out on the counter and you drop, you could end up breaking it. Have something like a towel to catch your candle.

Step 9: Hold candle by wick and polish it with the nylon stocking or you can even find spray in a local craft store like Hobby Lobby that will have a polish spray that will give your candle a nice shiny look.

Step 10: Untie the wick and cut it off to the appropriate length, do not cut the wick to short leave enough burning room. You do not want to cut the wick to short were it is burning straight into the candle. This could end up cutting down your candles burn time.Cut any extra wax off the bottom and place candle on a warm skillet to smooth out the bottom. Just touch the bottom of the candle to the skillet and move it in a circular motion. Till it looks like it is totally smooth.

Making your own candle can be fun and it can also save you a little money. Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, so why not set a romantic mood with a candle that you made yourself.
