“Paper Plate” Clock Craft Project Kids Can Make

Looking for an education craft project to help younger kids earn to tell time. Try making this twist on the old favorite of the paper plate clock. In this case though you will be using a ceramic plate, ceramic paints, and a real clock mechanism!

This ceramic plate clock is a fun accent piece that should fit into quite a few different rooms in any home, including the kid’s bedroom. This ceramic plate clock would look great in a little boy’s room, a family room, the basement reck room, or even in a game room.

To Make a Clock Out of a Ceramic Plate You Will Need:

One Ceramic Plate

Clock Kit

Ceramic Paint

Glue

Power Drill

Ceramic Drill Bit

Battery (Probably AA)

Ok, so the only step the kids can not do is drill the hole in the middle of their ceramic plate, so go ahead and do that for them using a ceramic drill bit.

Now, I always come across great Ceramic Plates at the local Goodwill. They come in all shapes and sizes and only cost 25 cents! Each of these would be perfect to make into this simple clock.

Drill a small hole in the middle of the Ceramic Plate. This will be for your clock kit, so you may want to take a look at that and see if there are any size recondition for this small hole. You don’t have to center the clock face; you could offset it for some visual interest.

Ok, so let the kids start painting on their ceramic plate. They can paint designs or numbers. Follow the directions on the bottles of your ceramic paints. They may need to dry for a certain amount of time.

Now, you are ready to install your clock kit on the Ceramic Plate. Follow the direction on the clock kit box. Each kit will be slightly different. I find clock kits at the hardware store, the home improvement store, and almost every single arts and craft store out there. I recommend a clock kit that runs on a battery so that you do not have to have a cord hanging out of the back of the Ceramic Plate, but that is complexly up to you.

Now, some clock kits will come with numbers, but you may find that they are too big for this educational craft project. You can use these great wooden numbers sold at the arts and craft store for this if you want.

You could also buy wooden cut out in the shape of circles. Go ahead and have the kids paint them out in their colors. When they dry you can glue on some smaller wooden cutout numbers. Paint these in all the same color like white, red, or yellow to tie the Ceramic Plate piece together.

Pop a battery into your clock kit and you can now hang your Ceramic Plate clock on the wall. If you are hanging it in a family game room why not hang it where everyone will see it!

Just remember, you can make this Ceramic Plate clock with any sized Ceramic Plate!

The kids will love learning to tell time on this grown up version of the traditional paper plate clock we al made as kids!
