Where to Buy Reasonably Affordable Entertainment Memorabilia in Downtown Disney in Orlando

Would you be willing to pay $15,000 for a guitar autographed by John Lennon? How about an X-Men United poster autographed by every single mutant? Okay, so you aren’t into all these johnny-come-latelies and are looking to purchase a piece of genuine Americana like the autographs of the Wright Brothers or little sureshot herself, Annie Oakley. Okay, one last chance. Maybe you are in the market for a genuine autograph of Soviet Union despot Josef Stalin. Is there really one place where you can get all of these? Yes. Not only is there a place, but it exists in Walt Disney World.

What!

The store is called Starabilias and is located in Downtown Disney, which is an area populated by stores like Lego and Ghirardelli and restaurants like the Hard Rock Café and superstores like Virgin Megastore. And situated in a corner lot is Starabilias. The first thing you’ll notice is the life-sized mask of Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Or a life-sized head of Worf from the Star Trek franchise. If you’ve got a sharp eye you may even notice the small piece of Gold Pressed Latinum associated mainly with the best Star Trek of them all, Deep Space Nine.

But once you enter the store you enter into a movie and music memorabilia lover’s paradise. Hanging from the wall and situated throughout the store are posters. Hey look over there and you’ll see a poster for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid signed by both Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Turn around and you will see hats signed by Marlon Brando or John Wayne. My favorite movie of all time is Raging Bull and if I had an extra $800 to spend I’d have a poster of Raging Bull right now signed by, I think, Martin Scorsese. That’s the downside to autographs, of course. Many times these people are in such a hurry that their signatures are indecipherable. If that’s a problem for you, why not shell out the money for an unsigned prop. For instance, if you’re a regular fan of Seinfeld you will no doubt recognize the plane-like desk decoration that regularly sits atop George Steinbrenner’s desk. At Starabilias you can buy not a reproduction but one of the actual decorations that were used. No autograph, but still pretty cool.

The most expensive movie memorabilia I saw was a poster of the new Harry Potter movie that also comes with an actual prop knife that was used. I believe this little piece of Hollywood history topped out at over $20,000. Don’t let that scare you, however, because most posters are between $500 and $2,000. Big fan of Scarface are you? Get a poster signed by my little friend Al Pacino. Big fan of Caddyshack? If you’ve got a thousand to spend you can put it in the hole in your den. Who is your favorite movie star? Clark Gable? Johnny Depp? Marilyn Monroe? Reese Witherspoon? At Starabilias you can buy a little piece of movie star memories if you’ve got reasonably shallow pockets. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying it doesn’t take some gumption to spend what may be a week or two weeks pay on a poster or photograph or book or album cover. But, if you are like me and you come across a high quality piece of Simpsons art signed by the voices of Homer and Bart, Dan Castelleneta and Nancy Cartwright, then the gumption really isn’t all that hard to come by. Yes, I would have loved to have come home with both a signed Raging Bull poster and Simpsons art, but right now I’m just not making that kind of money. Maybe one day, right?
