5 Casual Wedding Ideas

Weddings are often considered to be one of the most important days of a person’s life. When one thinks of weddings, they usually think of something elaborate: the dress, the decorations and even where it is held. But the truth is, many people don’t want those elaborate weddings because of their own personal preferences, lack of time or lack of money. If you are getting married but don’t want to go big for your wedding, then consider going the casual route. It will save you time and money during a time that easily become stressful with all the planning. This article will give you a few ideas for your casual wedding.

5 Casual Wedding Ideas #1: Clothing

If you don’t want to buy a wedding dress that will run you hundreds of dollars then opt for casual clothing, which can be more affordable. The bride can buy a dress that can be used after the ceremony for dinner parties, church or other dress up occasions. It may be possible that she already has something in her closet or can borrow something from a friend or family member. If it’s in the summer, you can even wear a beautiful sundress. The groom can wear a regular suit and tie instead of a tux or go for a dress shirt and a pair of slacks. Members in the wedding party can be invited to wear then own dressy clothing or you can help them pick out clothes that they can also reuse (trust me, they’ll appreciate not being stuck with an ugly bridesmaids dress that they can never wear again) at a later time.

5 Casual Wedding Ideas #2: Decorations

Decorate your casual wedding in a theme that you love that won’t require a lot of effort or opt for a few bows, tulle, and other wedding decorations that you can buy cheaply and hang up. You can buy bows and tulle from fabric stores that won’t cost that much. The Dollar Store even has wedding supplies and decorations that can make your casual wedding easier. You won’t have to run around planning elaborate decorations, you can simply buy a few items, hang them up and focus on getting married for your special day.

5 Casual Wedding Ideas #3: Food

Skip the caterer. You can make food yourself and enlist friends and family and help. If you don’t want to serve a full meal, then go for easy to make appetizers and fruit/veggies trays. If you do want meal choices, then make casseroles, or enchiladas and Spanish rice. If you’re going super casual, ask guests to bring a dish, making it a potluck. For a really casual wedding, you can skip the food altogether and just have a small cake for the bride and groom to share.

5 Casual Wedding Ideas #4: Setting

You don’t have to get married in the tropics to have a beautiful wedding. My parents got married in a gazebo in their backyard. It was a beautiful ceremony and it meant more because they were married where they were going to spend their life together. You could also get married at a local rec hall, a friend’s home, a different outdoor location, etc.Use your imagination. You may find that a place that you’ve always thought was beautiful in your hometown, can be rented at a low cost and be the perfect setting for your casual wedding.

5 Casual Wedding Ideas #5: Invitations

Skip the expensive printers and make your own invitations out of card stock and/or send evites to guests that you know have internet access. You can go to evite.com and make an attractive invitation online and guests can RSVP that way, with notices of RSVP’s or denials going straight to your inbox. Handmade invites have a charming look and skip all the frills. You can include a nice personal note to the person you’re inviting.
