10 Fat Fighting Foods that Are Healthy

Healthy foods that fight fat often lose in the commercially fueled battle against belly flab. Fat fighting foods provide food energy but refrain from faddish metabolism changes that adversely affect kidneys or the liver. Do you know your diet foods?

Leafy Greens are Foods that Fight Fat

Kale is becoming the trendy diet food of 2010 but anyone, who simply cannot get past the somewhat rubbery texture of the garnish green, can also reach for spinach or romaine lettuce. Being foods that fight fat, eat one, two or three cups and the odds are good that it still takes more to crack 100 calories. Consider adding (in moderation) some of the following healthy fat fighting foods.

Healthy Foods that Fight Fat: Yogurt!

The Mayo Clinic advises that an eight ounce cup of low-fat yogurt has more calcium than an eight ounce glass of milk. It has as much protein as an ounce of meat and it has live bacteria that are instrumental in preserving the gut flora. Best of all, yogurt is very filling and this makes it rank high among fat fighting foods.

Plain Instant Oatmeal

Don’t stay away from oatmeal (often noted among the foods that fight fat) because of long cooking times. The Fitness Nerd compares instant Quaker Oatmeal (without the added sugar and maple) with the oats that need cooking, and aside from 19 grams of sodium, the instant oats came out ahead! In addition to being healthy, they are fat fighting foods since they digest slowly, which keeps the stomach feeling full.

An Orange a Day…

One half cup of cooked broccoli has 3.6 grams of fiber. Consumers with an aversion to broccoli should look to oranges instead. According to the West Virginia University ExtensionService, one raw, medium-sized orange also has 3.6 grams of fiber (and is a lot tastier than cooked broccoli). Eat between 20 and 35 grams of dietary fiber per day.

Fat Fighting Foods from the Fridge: Eggs

Quoting David Grotto, R.D., Self explains that egg – all of the egg – is healthy and filling, which cuts down on late morning snack attacks.

Paprika, Cayenne Pepper and Tabasco are Foods that Fight Fat

These three fat fighting foods may be enjoyed in small quantities on any meal. The secret to their fat fighting properties is capsaicin, a substance that Fox News Health acknowledges as causing the body to burn calories for 20 minutes after ingestion. According to the Scoville scale, paprika is the mildest (2,500 to 8,000), while the cayenne and Tabasco peppers are a bit higher (30,000 to 50,000).

Foods that Fight Belly Fat: Salmon and Tuna

Fat fighting foods because of a high protein and healthy fat content, salmon and tuna also contain omega-3 fatty acids that manipulate insulin sensitivity. Portland Boot Camp Fitness relates this to healthy muscle-building and belly fat decrease.
