Your Guide to the 2012 Lego NinjaGo Booster Packs

Released in 2012 as a supplement to the NinjaGo Spinner set and the NinjaGo building sets, the Booster Packs offer collectors and players the ability to add to their cache for about five dollars per pack. The Spinner sets are in the ten dollar range so if you don’t need the actual spinner element then the booster are the perfect pick for you. Most come with three weapons (some have extra blades), four battle cards, one character card and the mini figure.

The booster packs are nicely packaged and are an affordable alternative to the Spinner sets providing that you do not want or need the spinner element. These packs can add a lot of extra play to the battle themed sets but because of the weapons and mini figures they can increase the replay value of other sets as well. Most retail stores are carrying these for about five dollars; they are almost guaranteed to be a hot seller for Christmas so if you are planning on gifting these you need to get them soon as there are some that are harder to come by than others.

NinjaGo Booster Kendo Cole (9551) This version of Cole is interesting because of the cage style mask that comes with it and the assortment of weapons. This is something that can easily be adapted for use with the older Lego Ninja theme so there is high replay value to it. You get three specialty weapons with the booster pack including the Golden Saw Staff, the amazing looking dual sided dagger and the pike. In addition to the character card you also get Liquefy, Back Up Plan, Rock Force and Flash ‘N Burn.

NinjaGo Booster Lloyd Garmadon (9552) Proving that sometimes size does not matter, the Lloyd Garmadon pack has a great dark version of the younger Garmadon. Without a doubt, the Golden Viper is the piece that everyone is going to want to get multiples of but the staff and Spear of Forked Tongues are also nice finds. His cards include Fearless, White Out, Whip Attack and Crown of Lightening along with a nicely done character card.

NinjaGo Booster Jay DX (9553) The enhanced version of Jay makes for a nice find if you are looking for booster packs; his character figure has hood accenting as well as shoulder armor pieces. The double bladed sword is a great weapon if you battle but the katana and striker are also handy in a face-off. This pack has one of my favorite cards, Double Stars. In addition to that one you also get Surrender, Avalanche, Fast As Lightening and his character card.

NinjaGo Booster Zane ZX (9554) Like the Jay DX figure, this one has a sweeter look to it because the extra accenting. Even though the weapons are a little on the weak side for battling you are getting a set of blades with it. These can be used a number of ways with the NinjaGo theme as well as with other Lego sets. The cards that come packaged with this booster pack include Stroke of Genius, Crown of Ice, Black Ice Shield and Counterattack.

NinjaGo Booster Mezmo (9555) If you are a fan of non-typical Lego mini figures then you are going to love Mezmo; instead of a standard head piece he has a series exclusive viper styled head. The weapons include a basic pick-axe, double ended axe and bone mace; the viper styled add on pieces are functional but can be used within a scene as an accessory item. His cards include Upper Hand, Snake Whips, Sacred Flute and Inner Peace as well as his character card.

NinjaGo Booster Bytar (9556) Bytar is another non-typical character but has incredible replay value within the theme as well as with others like Trolls or medieval themed sets. He comes with the Golden Viper, dagger and spear. He has some of the best cards if you collect them for their artwork; they include his character card, Earth Bound, Ground Attack, Crown of Earth and Chain Strike. For me this is one of the best booster packs released this year for the NinjaGo theme.

NinjaGo Booster Lizaru (9557) While he looks a little like an alien, he’s meant to look like a lizard. Another set of the amazing mini viper blades are included with the pack with the weapons being a silver fixed mace, Golden Axe and throwing axe. The detailing on Lizaru is something that you need to see up close to truly appreciate it. The four battle cards include Spit Acid, Boost, Poison Whips and Fair Fight.
