Vintage Cast Iron Trivet Clock

Vintage Cast Iron Trivets seem to be the latest rage in all of the home décor stores. I come across reproduction Vintage Cast Iron Trivets at Crate and Barrel, William Sonoma, and Pottery Barn all of the time. This easy to make Vintage Cast Iron Trivet clock is a great way to add a little vintage charm to any kitchen or home office.

Whether you use a real Vintage Cast Iron Trivet or a reproduction to make this fun wall clock you are sure to enjoy it for years to come.

The great thing about making this Vintage Cast Iron Trivet is that you don’t need to drill or saw anything!

To Make a Clock Out of a Vintage Cast Iron Trivet You Will Need:

One Vintage Cast Iron Trivet

Clock Kit

Glue

Power Drill

Battery (Probably AA)

Now, I always come across great Vintage Cast Iron Trivets reproductions at Target. I even find Vintage Cast Iron Trivet at the flea market every summer. Each of these would be perfect to make into this simple clock.

Use the small hole in the middle of the Vintage Cast Iron Trivet to install your clock kit. This will be for your clock kit, so you may want to take a look at that and see if there are any size condition for this small hole. You don’t have to center the clock face; you could offset it for some visual interest. Vintage Cast Iron Trivets have lots of carved out holes and details all over them. If your Vintage Cast Iron Trivet is flat you can install your clock face anywhere.

Now, you are ready to install your clock kit on the Vintage Cast Iron Trivet. Follow the direction on the clock kit box. Each kit will be slightly different. I find clock kits at the hardware store, the home improvement store, and almost every single arts and craft store out there. I recommend a clock kit that runs on a battery so that you do not have to have a cord hanging out of the back of the Vintage Cast Iron Trivet, but that is completely up to you.

Now, some clock kits will come with numbers, but you may find that they are too big for this Vintage Cast Iron Trivet clock project.

You can use these great small wooden numbers sold at the arts and craft store for this if you want. I like to paint them out in yellow, or a contrasting color that will really show on the Vintage Cast Iron Trivet, glue them on and really make this look great! You could also glue on vintage marbles as the numbers of the clock.

You could also buy wooden cut out in the shape of circles. Go ahead and paint them out in their colors. When they dry you can glue on some smaller wooden cutout numbers. Paint these in all the same color like white, red, or yellow to tie the Vintage Cast Iron Trivet piece together.

Pop a battery into your clock kit and you can now hang your Vintage Cast Iron Trivet clock on the wall. I like to use one of those many openings in the trivet to simply hang this clock on a nail on the wall.

If you are hanging it in an eat in kitchen why not hang it where everyone will see it! This will be a really conversation starter the next time you have a dinner party!

Just remember, you can make this Vintage Cast Iron Trivet clock with any sized Vintage Cast Iron Trivet. You could always mount the trivet on a large piece of cut out wood and paint the wood with some milk paint to make a larger clock. Just be sure to drill a hole in the center of the wood for the clock kit!
