Top Ranked High School Football Players Won’t Commit

National college football signing day is Feb. 1st. This is the day when high school prospect are expected to have their letters of intent signed to a university in order to accept a sports scholarship. Most young men make their commitment known well before national signing day, but this year a few of the most highly touted prospects of the year are making the sports world wait in suspense.

Dorial Green-Beckham (WR): Rivals.com National Rank 1
Springfield, MO. Hillcrest High School
6’6″ 220 lbs.
Visits: Texas, Arkansas

Dorial Green-Beckham is by far the nations leading recruit. His size alone puts him up there with many NFL receivers. His size coupled with a phenomenal skill set, gives Green-Beckham the opportunity to choose any school in the country. Green-Beckman has already visited Texas and Arkansas and says he plans on making another visit to Arkansas in late January. In the same interview, he stated that he will not sign a commitment letter until national signing day (Feb 1st). It looks like Arkansas has a pretty good chance. Students are allowed five official visits to schools of their choice. The fact that Green-Beckham would spend two of those visits on one school looks well for the Razorbacks.

Eddie Goldman (DT): Rivals.com National Rank 2

Washington DC, Friendship Collegiate Academy
6’4″ 307 lbs.
Visits: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Miami (FL)

Eddie Goldman has the perfect build for a defensive lineman. He has received offers from just about every school under the sun. Goldman has made good use of his five official visits by visiting four schools. Like Green-Beckham, Goldman says that he will not make his decision known until Feb. 1st. Goldman said in an interview that distance won’t be a factor in his decision. This statement would seem to refer to Miami (FL). However, it will be interesting to see how Alabama performs in the BCS Title Game on Jan. 9th. It would be difficult to tell the national champions that you don’t want to play for them.

Darius Hamilton (DE): Rivals.com National Rank 5

Ramsey, NJ. Don Bosco Prep.
6’4″ 245 lbs.
Visits: California, Florida, Miami (FL), Rutgers

Darius Hamilton has visited several schools in the past few months. It is difficult to say which school would be on the top of his list. Rutgers is close to home for Hamilton, but he may be looking for a more competitive division. Hamilton is the son of former NFL player Keith Hamilton. Surely his father is helping Hamilton dig deep into depth charts in order to find the best school where he will get the most playing time. Hamilton originally planned to announce his commitment in December, but has delayed the announcement.
