Top 10 Lagers of All Time

To determine the top 10 Lagers of all time, an individual must understand what constitutes a Lager and how it should taste. There are two types of Lagers, both a Regular Lager and an Amber Lager. The Regular Lager is light in both body and color. The Amber Lager is medium bodied with either a reddish-brown or copper color.

The Light Lagers have a very clean and crisp taste. They are a lightweight beer that is highly carbonated. The Light Lagers have a light to mild malt sweetness, which enhances their flavor. To achieve this flavor, additives such as corn, rice, other grains or sugar are used. Hops are used on a very limited basis to eliminate any bitterness to the flavor or aroma. Within you Light Lagers, no flavor component will out-weigh another.

Amber Lagers will range from a reddish brown to copper amber coloring. These particular beers are of medium body weight. When drinking an Amber Lager, you will definitely notice a caramel flavor and often an aroma with it. This is common in almost every Amber Lager. Hop bitterness and flavorings are added to accentuate Amber Lager’s deep coloring which in turn causes the caramel flavor and strong aroma. To enjoy an Amber Lager, one must enjoy a malty taste along with the medium bodied beer.

To select my top 10 Lagers of all time, I enlisted the help of my husband. We both enjoy a good beer after a long day at work. We have picked a mixture of both Light and Amber Lager beer to complete our list. They include:

1. Budweiser, Light American Lager – brewed by Anheuser-Bush, Incorporated located in Missouri.

2. Leinenkugel’s Original, Light American Lager – brewed by Jacob Leinenkugel’s Brewing Company located in Wisconsin.

3. Riverwest Stein Beer, American Amber Lager – brewed by Lakefront Brewery located in Wisconsin.

4. Pabst Blue Ribbon, Light American Lager – brewed by Pabst Brewing Company/G. Helleman Brewing Company located in Texas.

9. Yuengling Premium Beer, Light American Lager – brewed by Yuengling Brewery located in Pennsylvania.

10. Coney Island Lager, Amber American Lager – brewed by Shmaltz Brewing Company located in California.

When trying each of our picks for the top 10 Lagers of all time, consider we enjoy both light and medium body beers, the two of us also enjoyed experimenting with different food with our Lager flavors. We highly recommend any of the Lagers to go with barbeques, social gatherings or just for a relaxing night at home. Each one was pleasant within the mouth, while swallowing, and left a pleasant aftertaste. Again, everyone has his or her own preference on how a beer should taste. We have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy our listing of the top 10 Lagers of all time.
