Mother’s Day Party Ideas that Will Make Mom Feel Special

Mother’s Day is fast approaching. This holiday is easily overlooked, thus leaving mom feeling under-appreciated. The fact that it’s always on a different day of the year adds to the wonder of when exactly Mother’s Day is.

In the United States, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. Internationally, Mother’s Day is always May 11th. While it’s easy to send a card and go on with your busy Sunday plans, why not take some time and show the mothers in your life just how much you do appreciate them? Have a Mother’s Day party with a lot of extra special touches.

Here are just a few tips to get you started:

Flowers:

It is easy to buy your mom some flowers from the grocery store and call them special. To make them just a bit more memorable find out what your mother’s favorite flower is, and try to find them. Fresh cut flowers are wonderful placed in a vase for the day, but if your mom is gardening inclined, giving her a potted bunch of the flowers is even more special. This way she will be able to think of you as she tends them, and watches them bloom. If you do not know your mother’s favorite flower, or you cannot get them, a cute idea my husband has used before is to get a pot of mums. They are “mom” in their name. His mom absolutely loved them.

Decorations:

Streamers are fine for birthdays. Balloons are great if it’s a birthday. Mother’s Day calls for a little bit more sophistication. An elegantly set table can make the entire eating area feel magical. If you only save the china for special occasions, then Mother’s Day should be one of those times. The centerpiece should be made of things that make you think of your mom. While a purchased centerpiece of flowers will look beautiful, one that is handmade will add a special touch for your mother, and add a great conversation piece. Photos, and trinkets, and knick knacks can be arranged in the middle of the table for everyone to see.

Food:

I know that it seems pretty obvious to make your mother’s favorite foods, but that is exactly what you should do. Everyone has one food that they always want to eat. If your mom’s favorite food is pancakes, then make pancakes. If the meal makes no sense, then it makes no sense. Holidays are about creating memories, and a big part of all memories is food. People will talk about your party for two big reasons, the food or the things that go wrong. Make your food something to talk about. If your mom’s favorite food is from a restaurant, then by all means call the restaurant and order that dish for everyone and pick it up. If you can find out your mother’s favorites without coming right out and asking her, the better the surprise will be for her.

Guests:

While it seems obvious to invite family to a Mother’s Day party, be sure to acknowledge the other mothers in attendance. Have some kind of special favor for them as well. Also be sure to ask your guests to bring a handmade gift. Store bought ones are fine, but if you have them take a little time, it will be extra special. Taking a little extra time will make this a day that your mother will not soon forget.
