Product Review: Organic Beef Jerky at Trader Joe’s

As a self-confessed Trader Joe’s junkie, no week is complete a few trips down to the local Trader Joe’s store. As I am a fairly health-conscious individual who is rather picky about what he eats, I have come to regard Trader Joe’s as a necessary adjunct in my pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. For people like me who are big into reading labels and avoiding food that is overly processed or pumped full of antibiotics and hormones, Trader Joe’s is a God-send. From the organic fruits and vegetables to the nitrite-free meats to the hormone-free dairy products, Trader Joe’s offers a little something for everyone. If you are fussy about what you eat and strive to consume the highest quality food that you can find, Trader Joe’s is the place for your food shopping.

Recently, over the course of one of my many forays into the local Trader Joe’s store, I have stumbled upon a rather new item: organic beef jerky! Although somewhat pricey at $4.99 for a four ounce bag, I nevertheless decided to take a chance and purchase a bag. And boy, am I glad that I did! I’m not sure how many bags of jerky I have purchased so far, but it’s more than I can count on all of my fingers and toes. The stuff is really good! And the texture; it’s oh so soft and moist! I have always liked beef jerky, and I have tried all kinds of beef jerky from all kinds of places: gas stations, liquor stores, mini-marts, e.t.c. Out of all of those places, nothing compares to the organic beef jerky sold at Trader Joe’s. It wins hands down! And the funny thing is, the Trader Joe’s jerky is actually pretty healthy for you. It’s very low in fat and sugar, it’s high in protein, and it’s minimally processed; meaning it’s not pumped full of preservatives, antibiotics, hormones, and God knows what else. The taste is really unique. It’s a unique blend of molasses, apple cider vinegar, and soy. The jerky comes in original, teriyaki, hot and spicy, and pepper flavors.

So, the next time you find yourself shopping at Trader Joe’s and looking for a good quality snack, try a bag of their organic beef jerky. If you are a fan of jerky, you will not be disappointed.
