Pioco’s Chicken Serves the Best Mofongo in Town: A Review

Pioco’s Chicken located at Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee, Florida is the hot spot to be if you’re craving authentic Puerto Rican food and desserts. One of Puerto Rico’s essential dish is mofongo.

Mofongo is made from fried green plantains, mashed together, and then drenched with thick chicken, crab, shrimp or beef broth. The mofongo then is topped with vegetables or your choice of meats or seafood, usually shrimp. It can be eaten along with Puerto Rican style Rotisserie chicken, fried pork shoulders or Chicharones (Puerto Rican three layered pork). If that doesn’t make your mouth water, then you’re better of eating a celery stick!

Pioco’s chicken is also serving up other delicious savory eats as well. If you feel like Cuban sandwich, you’re in luck! How about a little avocado salad? No problem. If you feel like dessert, there are mouth watery sweets and pastries for your sweet tooth as well.

Portions at Piocos Chicken – The portions at Pioco’s chicken is to die for! The guys at Pioco’s Chicken do not mess around when it comes to feeding their customers. They will fill your entire plate and then some. Last week for dinner, I ordered a mofongo, half a rotisserie chicken along with some fried pork and vegetables. When the woman behind the counter handed it to me, the bag was heavy. It must have been at least five pounds of food. What I thought was going to be my dinner ended up being my dinner, breakfast and then lunch the next day. It was well worth the money.

Food Quality at Pioco’s Chicken – The guys at Pioco’s chicken must not know what the word “dry” is. Their food is never dry or bland. The monfogo is always deliciously moist, the chicken is juicy and tender, and the pork is nice and crunchy. The Cuban sandwich is hot and toasty and overstuffed with pork.

Prices at Pioco’s Chicken – The mofongo alone is around $4, but if you’d like to add shrimp, it will be around $9. Considering the portion and the generous serving of shrimps, that $9 is well worth it. A half chicken is roughly $6.49, so a whole chicken is a little over $10. If you want the combo, which includes mofongo and your choice of pork or chicken, the meal will be a little over $15. Because the portion is so large, it’s like you’ll be paying for two servings that will last you through tomorrow’s brunch.

Pioco’s Chicken is located at 2062 E Osceola Pkwy. For more info, call (407) 348-8521. You can either dine in or call ahead of time to take out.
