Origins Sensory Therapy Peace of Mind and Sleep Time on the Spot Relief

In the midst of a stressed and busy life, many people need a moment’s peace. Many others have trouble falling asleep; they lie awake in bed as the day passes through their minds in review, and they think about what they should have done or said, and all that there is still to do. Origins, a company known for its many natural products, has a line of products that might help. They are the Sensory Therapy products.

Peace of Mind contains basil, peppermint, and eucalyptus, among other ingredients, designed to “initiate a rapid relaxation response,” as the company describes it in their literature. I have the “On the Spot” relief, a small pump-bottle containing 0.5 fluid ounces, that delivers a tiny drop that should be applied to the temples. I use it when I feel stressed, overwhelmed, or worried, and Origins is right: it does bring a rapid response. As the essential oils go through my skin, and scent reaches the olfactory lobes of my brain, there is a sudden sense of relief, and my neck and shoulders relax, as though suddenly all is right with the world. There are no artificial fragrances in this product; it’s the real thing, with essential oils in a gentle base.

There are other Peace of Mind products that I haven’t tried yet, but will as my budget allows. The massage oil comes in a 3.4 oz bottle for $18.50. A wonderful vapor bath, to include in your tub, costs $22.50 for 6.7 ounces. Remember, if you think that these prices are high, that because they contain essential oils a very small amount will go a very long way. The other Peace of Mind items are a diffuser, for $12.50, and diffusing oil to refill it for $15.00. The diffuser should fill a good-sized room with stress relief.

The other scent is Sleep Time, and it should come as no surprise that the main ingredient is lavender, although it also contains orange blossoms, rose, chamomile, tangerine, lemon, honey myrtle, and more. Again, these are essential oils, in a base of purified water, glycerin, and castor bean oil. The Sleep Time On the Spot gel, which I own, is a 1.7 fluid ounce gel that should be applied, in tiny dabs, to the center of the forehead, back of the neck, and lower abdomen. Practitioners of yoga and/or reiki, and even most massage therapists, will recognize these as corresponding to three of the major chakra points, essential to the flow of energy (prana, in yoga, which I practice, or qi/chi to my acupuncturist) but Origins doesn’t describe them that way, and I’ll leave that discussion to those who know more about it than I do. What I know is that when I use the Sleep Time gel, I am relaxed within minutes, and drift off to sleep, no matter what has been racing around my mind before I applied it.

Origins also makes the Float Away Milk Bath in the Sleep Time scent, with the same essential oils. A large 16.6 fluid ounce bottle is $22.50, and while it too can be used in small amounts, I am still saving up for it. Parents know that a warm lavender bath can often soothe a fussy baby and send him off to dreamland, and the same is true for adults.

At $10 for Peace of Mind and $15 for Sleep Time On the Spot relief gels, products that truly work, I give them both 5 of 5 stars. They are great products. The Sleep Time waits beside my bed, and Peace of Mind is in my purse. I shared it with a stressed, over-worked nurse at a recent doctor’s appointment, and although she was at first reluctant to try it, she was amazed with the results and vowed to buy some for herself. If your days are stressed and your nights sleepless, I recommend them to you too, and would share mine if I could.
