Kleenex Box Money Gift

Stop throwing away those empty tissue boxes and start turning them into new things! You know you’re going to use tissues so it’s time you learned some things you can make from the old boxes. One thing is a unique money gift for the holidays, a special friend, a birthday or another occasion. Money is a suitable gift for nearly anyone and for nearly any reason. That makes a money box an ideal gift for the person you have in mind.

To make a money box you can use a square, boxy Kleenex box or one that’s rectangular and much shorter. Each one ends up looking a little different but both dispense cash. The amount of cash the box holds is totally up to you.

To prepare the money for the box decide on how much to give and in what denominations. You can make all the bills dollars or you can include larger denominations. If you’re using a square box, lay the money end-to-end, then tape each two bills together. When you’re finished taping the money you should have one really long “banner” of bills that will dispense vertically. If you’re using a rectangular tissue box for this project lay the bills out so that their long sides are touching each other. Tape the two sides together so that you have a long, horizontal banner of bills.

If you’re using a square box, begin rolling the banner of bills from one short end to the other. If you’re using a rectangular box begin rolling from one long side of the first bill to the long side of the last bill. Cut a small tab from paper and tape it to the first bill. Drop the roll of bills into the box but bring the tab up through the slit in the top of the box. For now, use a tiny piece of tape to secure the tab to the box top.

No matter what kind of Kleenex box you’re using you can cover it with decorative paper or even cloth. Or, use the decorative box itself, as-is, but cut a new top for it. The top can be cut from cloth, scrapbook paper or similar things. You don’t necessarily have to cut away the plastic pieces that hold the tissues up; cut them off or just cover them up with the new paper or cloth. As you wrap the box, bring the ends to the bottom, then tape or glue to secure. Cut off excess paper or fabric before doing so and the box will sit flat.

Feel along the top of the box and use a craft knife to cut a slit where the opening of the box is. Remove the tape from the tab then pull the tab up through the new slit in the paper. The tab makes it easy for the recipient to begin dispensing the cash.

There are lots of different themes and décorations you can give the boxes. If it’s a holiday you can choose holiday gift wrap. If not, wrap the box in scrapbook paper that features money images. Or, cover the box in whatever you want, then glue on a chosen accent, like a painted wooden shape, a wrought iron piece or even fake jewels. There’s no one who won’t love the unique money box!
