Is it Really Better ‘N Peanut Butter?

According to the manufacturer, Wonder Natural Foods, Better ‘N Peanut Butter has 85% less fat and 40% less calories than traditional peanut butter. At only one hundred calories per serving (two tablespoons) this product brings hope back to many deprived peanut butter fans. But does it deliver?

I was both thrilled and disappointed in what I found. Obviously the taste of ‘real’ peanut butter is better, or at least different. This product will not work as a direct substitute for die hard peanut butter fans. If you are a peanut butter lover that still regularly eats it out of the jar and are thinking about trying this instead, you will most likely not enjoy it. I suggest you simply switch to an all natural brand or the low fat or sodium version of your favorite brand instead of taking this leap. The taste is not exactly like peanut butter, especially straight from the jar.

However, if you’ve been depriving yourself peanut butter fir any length of time then you will love this product. There are currently three varieties; original, low sodium and chocolate. I have not yet tried the low sodium, but the original and chocolate have become regular additions to my shopping list. The texture is a it different than traditional peanut butter, it is a thinner consistency. It tastes sweeter than you would expect as well. However, if you are planning on using it on fruit and vegetables, on sandwiches or in recipes it will be a great solution. If you want to go for eating straight off the spoon I suggest trying the chocolate variety rater than the original or low sodium. The chocolate version is also a decent substitution for Nuttella fans. I really like to use the chocolate variety on an English muffin for breakfast and in my chocolate cookie recipes that call for peanut butter. I like to use the original on my sandwiches and as an apple dip as well as in smoothie and baking recipes.

I buy mine in a local Shaw’s store, but it can also be found at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. You can also buy it online through Amazon or the Better ‘N Peanut Butter website
