How-to ABC Text Message

Text messaging is rapidly growing in popularity. Everyone from younger children to even the elderly are now text messaging. But there’s one little problem-You don’t know how to text message.

Obviously when text messaging was brought to the public no one knew how to use it yet, so don’t feel bad that you’re new to this popular invention. Instead, you should learn how to text message. In reality, text messaging is very easy to learn, and as you use it over time your speed increases dramatically.

In the field of text messaging there are a few different variations on how you can text. The two primary versions of text messaging are ‘Abc’ and ‘T9Word’. Both are pretty easy to learn, but there is alFor clarification reasons, I am using a Verizon LG phone, so your setup may be a little different depending on your provider and cell phone model.

Your ABC Text Messaging Lesson

ABC text messaging seems somewhat more logical after it is described to you, and it is easier to pick up and explain as well.

When you start texting in ‘ABC’ mode the first letter you type is going to be a capital. But what if you want to capitalize another letter? That’s easy. if you would like to capitalize another letter (even in the middle of a word) press the asterisk key (*) and your next letter will be capitalized. If you keep texting, then the next letter after this capital letter will not be lower cased. If you want another capital letter press the asterisk key again, and for every time you wish to type in another capital letter.

Now, the explanation on how to type in ‘ABC’ mode aside from capitalization. As you can see on each button from numbers 2 through 9 there are three of four letters on each button. Now press the button as many times as the letter is from the left. For example, you want to get the letter C. To get to the letter C you must hit the 2 button three times. If you wanted to type in a K, you would hit the 5 button two times, and so on.

After you type in the letter you want and you want to type in another letter from another key, simply key in that letter as if it was your first. For example, lets say you wanted to type in the word “dog”. Here’s a run down of how to type “dog” in:

-Hit the 3 key one time.
-Hit the 6 key three times.
-Hit the 4 key one time.

You don’t need to pause between key strokes if the next letter you are using is on a different numeric key. if you wanted to write a word like “more”, you would have to do one of two things when typing between the “m” and the “o”. You could either wait for the cursor to move to the right side of the “m” and then keep texting, or you can simply hit right on the cell phones directional pad. If you’re fast I recommend using the directional pad, if not just wait, it takes about two seconds. For reinforcement purposes, here is a run down on how to type “more”:

-Hit the 6 key one time.
-Either wait a couple of seconds OR hit right on the directional pad.
-Hit the 7 key three times.
-Hit the 3 key two times.

Another important aspect of text messaging, or the English language in general is the use of punctuation. In order to use punctuation you use the 1 key. When you hit the 1 key is starts off as a period, then if you hit the 1 key again it changes. If you repeat this process it goes through a bunch of punctuation marks such as commas, exclamation points, question marks, ect. After you get the selected punctuation mark you want either wait a few seconds or hit right on the directional pad to set the puncation mark. In order to reach other punctuation marks hit the key that opens the window to different modes and select the tag that says “Symbols”.

Also, spaces. You use the “#” key to space. Each time you press the # key it completes one full space. If you accidentally connect two words by forgetting to space between each, don’t worry. Hit left on the directional pad to the designated area and hit the “#” button to put s apce between the two words.

To type numbers you can either open up the menu that switches modes and key in numbers according to the numeric key pad, or hit the designated number button you want four or five times. Four times if theres three letters on the key, or five times if theres four letters on the key. For example:
You want to put in the number 5.
-Hit the 5 key four times.

The only exception to the number rule is 0. To key in the number 0, simply hit the 0 key when in ABC mode.

To erase a letter that you do not want hit the “CRL” button. This backspaces one letter at a time.

When you would like to send your completed text message, simply hit the “Send” button on your cell phone. If it s not labelled “Send”, it’s probably associated with another word like “Send” is coated in a green color.

That’s about everything I can teach you about ths mode in texting. After you practice and get the hang of it you will easily pick up speed and accuracy. Soon I will write a tutorial on T9Word text messaging, so look for that too!
