Hot Hair Color Trends for 2010

2010 is right around the corner and for some that may mean a slight hair color change. 2010 you are going to see lots of color. The hottest colors will be deeper shades of brown, deep plums, shades of auburn, mahogany, bright bold red, all sorts of blondes, multicolored with highlights, black undertones and even a lavender hue.

Have you ever wondered to yourself which colors look great together? Or which color should you use as your base and highlight? This is pretty confusing to some, because when you color your hair you have to consider your skin tone and if the color you choose will make you or break you. Being a beautician for over 16 years I have experimented with color quite a bit on customers and myself. I am going to give you a quick color run down on what I feel looks great together if you are trying to achieve highlights, low-lights or a multi-dimension look.

Red base (or natural red hair) If you have or planning on having a copper red base then for highlights I would suggest going with a deep bold red highlight as a face frame along with a few streaks of very light blonde in top section or a deep chocolate. In my books a copper red I considered a medium shade of the red family. Having the deeper shades in the front area will bring out your facial features more, and give you a multi-tonal look.

Dark red shade- By dark I mean like fire red, cherry red, maroon, burgundy, or a crimson color red. Since you already have the deeper shade as the base for highlights I would add a mixture of blonde and strawberry blonde around the sides and front area to make the appearance bolder looking. A deep red with burgundy or plum low-lights looks really sharp as well. 2010 you will see a lot of purple tones mixed with reds or chocolates.

Light red shade- If you have or planning on getting a lightest copper, light auburn, strawberry blonde, or Tahitian red base then I would go with medium shades to compliment the lighter shade like a deep apricot, golden caramel, spicy ginger, or a light chestnut would look amazing.

Chocolate brown base- A deep chocolate brown hair color is very hot for 2010. When you have a shade like chocolate there are many different colors to coordinate it with. You can go light with the highlights using a honey, bright gold, platinum, or a caramel color. If you want darker highlights go with a cherry cola, burgundy, cinnamon, maroon, or lavender hue. Believe it or not even a very nice pink tint would look wonderful on the chocolate base.

Platinum blonde base- Platinum is extremely hot and will continue through out 2010. When you have a platinum base you can add deep chocolate or black highlights, pink, maroon, deeper blonde, or use multiple colors ranging from golden blonde to a sexy red.

Other hot hair colors for 2010 will be pastel highlights like Lady Gaga’s latest hairstyle, which is platinum with a mystic heather color highlight along with a cotton candy pink highlight.
