If you have been paying attention to the world of surfing as of late, one this is for certain. The 2012 HIC Pro surfing competition has had quite a few starts and stops in the past several days. The contest was originally scheduled to start in Hawaii on Monday, October 29, 2012 and run through early November 2012. However, Mother Nature seemingly had other plans. After a series of frustrating lay days, only two rounds of surfing have been fully completed. Round 3 was partially completed. With that said, here’s a brief look at some of the latest results:
Round 1 Results
The highest surf heat score of Round 1 took place in Heat 2. It featured surfers Kamalei Woolsey Alex (HAW), Levi Gonzales (HAW), Wade Carmichael (AUS) and Britton Galland (USA). Kamalei Woolsey Alex won the surf heat with 13.17 points. His best waves were a 7.67 point ride and a 5.50 point ride. He went on to lose his subsequent Round 3 matchup against Pancho Sullivan (HAW), Makai McNamara (HAW) and Ian Gentil (HAW).
Round 2 Results
The highest surf heat score of Round 2 took place in Heat 1. It featured surfers Makana Eleogram (HAW), Solomon Oritz (HAW), Jack Perry (AUS) and Jesse Merle-Jones (HAW). Makana Eleogram won the surf heat with 15.57 points. His best waves were an 8.17 point ride and a 7.40 point ride. I really enjoyed watching him surf.
Round 3 Results
Round 3 of the HIC Pro kicked off with a surf heat between Tanner Hendrickson (HAW), Taylor Clark (USA), Makana Eleogram (HAW) and Saxon Lumsden (AUS). Tanner Hendrickson won the surf heat with 13 points. His best maneuvers resulted in a 7.50 point ride and a 5.50 point ride. He is expected to surf again in Round 4, Heat 1. At that time, he’ll be facing off against Brian Toth (PRI), Jamie O’Brien (HAW) and Isaiah Moniz (HAW).
Round 3 continued for 10 more surf heats before the contest went back on hold. The surf action is expected to resume with a Heat 12 matchup between Kekoa Bacalso (HAW), Izuki Tanaka (JPN), Kalani Chapman (HAW) and Ezra Sitt (HAW).
What’s Next?
Depending on Mother Nature’s mood, the HIC Pro may get back underway on Thursday, November 8, 2012. The surfing competition’s waiting period is slated to end on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Once the surfing competition does resume, surf fans will be able to watch all of the remaining heats on the Vans website.
Killeen Gonzalez enjoys watching surfing with her family. She also has a history of interviewing pro surfers.
