Pez dispensers were once a staple in nearly every American household. These little candy holders that came with character heads that everybody loved were fun for all ages. It wouldn’t take long for people to start collecting these character shaped Pez dispensers just for fun.

Pez dispensers have been made in just about every popular character that American has had it’s eyes on over the years. If there is a new cartoon out, there is likely a Pez Dispenser that matches the character. With more than 400 different Pez dispensers on the market these unique little items have become a collector’s dream. From old school characters such as the first Mickey Mouse, to new age characters such as Sponge Bob Squarepants, there is a Pez Dispenser that fits just about any era.

There are numerous books available that teach the art of collecting Pez dispensers…yes it has become somewhat of an art form. With so many different dispensers on the market it takes a book to understand the values of each little dispenser. If you have old Pez dispensers that are from the early 1950’s then you likely have a Pez dispenser collector’s item of the day…the early dispensers are typically worth the most money in the Pez collecting world.

The Pez Dispensers have changed a bit over the years and these changes can help to identify how old a Pez Dispenser really is. The oldest dispensers did not have those tiny feet on the bottom that you use to pop the candy up. Newer dispensers have feet and of course typically updated characters. While Pez Dispensers were once square on the bottom, this ended in the 1980’s so any dispenser with a square bottom is likely at least 25 years old.

The rare Pez dispensers will be worth the most money over time. Some of the most rare dispensers to date include those that are of vintage style and the plain dispensers that do not contain any character heads. Although it is safe to say that the rare models will bring the most money right away, collecting can begin with the newest models as well. The new Pez dispenser models may not be worth much right now but if you keep them in good shape over the years they will increase in value.

If you want to begin collecting Pez Dispensers or you are already an avid collector of these little items there are plenty of places that you can shop to continue your collection. Ebay is a great place to shop for Pez Dispensers that you don’t have. Sometimes you can find some real collector’s items on Ebay when shopping for Pez Dispensers. Another good place to look is at flea markets. Often times a flea market will have a Pez collector that is willing to make exchanges or sell certain dispensers that you want at great prices. Look around, you will find these little Pez Dispensers hiding in the weirdest places.

Make sure that if you are going to collect Pez Dispensers you have a Pez Collecting book on hand. This way you will be able to stay up to date on the latest and greatest items in the Pez world. You may also find Pez Collecting information on the internet. Keep in mind that the most valuable Pez Collections are kept in their original packaging. Although it is difficult to find early Pez Dispensers that are still in their original packaging, if you do come across these you can guarantee that they are worth some money.
