Great Natural Hair Style: How to Do Twists

The twist is a wonderful hairstyle for people with natural hair. The first thing that you need to do is start with freshly washed natural hair that is free of products. Dry the hair just a bit with a soft towel.

Next, you want to grab a comb that is good for parting the hair. Concerning the use of a product, you have a choice. You can either use or not use a product on each section of hair that you twist. If you use a product, you could use a gel. However, I would not suggest that because a lot of times, the gels will cause your hair to flake. My suggestion for a product is something with a lot of moisture such as Organics Carrot Oil or perhaps something else that is creamy. Just use a little to moisten each section of hair as you twist.

Begin at the base of the neck and create one long vertical part that goes from ear to ear. Then create your first twisted section by making a horizontal part. Grab the small section of hair, split it into two pieces and begin to twist tightly, wrapping the two pieces around each other repeatedly. Then, you should move your comb over and start another horizontal part and repeat the steps above as you move to the top of the head.

As you begin to complete this hairstyle and make your way to the top of your head, it’s important to know if you want a part in your hair or not. If you would like a side part, before arriving at the top of your head, you should take your comb and put a side part in and then proceed to guiding and parting the rest of your twists in that direction.

After you have twisted your whole head of hair, and you have completed the hairstyle, you should give your twists a bit of time to dry before you perhaps lie down and go to sleep on them. Depending on the size of your twists, lying down on them may cause them to flatten, and before you know it you have a different natural hairstyle than you intended to have.

When you have let your hair dry for a little bit, and your hair is in pretty twists, you are finished and you have a beautiful natural hairstyle that can last for approximately two weeks. As a side note, I do not recommend that you wash or rinse your twists before you take them out. Doing so may cause them to look frizzy very early on, and it also can create problems when you take them out. If you have wet your hair before taking the twists out, as you begin to untwist you may find yourself dealing with a lot of tangles depending on the type of hair that you have. Therefore, in order to keep your twists looking their best, I recommend that you do not get them wet. As they need moisture, just use a bit of sheen or moisturizer of your choice.
