Girls’ Night Out in Tucson Arizona

Life in Tucson, Arizona is pretty quiet, laid back, most people living solitary lives, busy doing their own “thing.” Going to work everyday, having to travel quite a distance to their jobs and so tired at the end of the day, that all they want to do is relax at home before having to go to bed and start another day. Having the desire, energy and stamina to want to go out at night, especially during the week is rare. On weekends most people like to spend the time with their family, or catching up on household chores, weekly food shopping, or just plain “chilling.” Most homes here in Tucson are so spread out that people don’t even know their neighbors. When most people think of “Girls’ Night Out” they think of a wild night going to a club, having a few drinks and partying. That’s not the way it is for me and my “girls.” I’ve lived here in Tucson for 26 years before I even started participating in “Girls’ Night Out” and now that I do, I love it.
For me, there’s 4 girls in my group, including myself. We usually arrange our “Girls’ Night Out” during one of our birthday months, but lately we’ve also been getting together for a “Girls’ Night Out” just because…. As far as our birthdays go during the year, there’s one in January, another in February, another in April and then mine in August. Right there we meet first one month apart, then 2 months and then 4 months apart. That’s a pretty good stretch in-between to live our everyday lives and then to get together often enough to catch up on our families and chat about what’s been going on since we last met. Lately we also have been meeting monthly, just because…. Our “Girls’ Night Out” is always on a week night, after work. We always meet at a restaurant and for our birthday get-togethers the “birthday girl” gets to pick which restaurant it will be at. Since I’m so frugal, I always pick the one I have a coupon for. Marie Callender’s offers great coupons and since they have a salad bar, their prices are quite reasonable and they have such yummy pies, twice lately that has been our meeting place.
Our chats are awesome. No gossip about those who aren’t with us (okay, maybe a little – ha – but with good nature), just fun stuff, advice, hearing of each others’ experiences and learning from them. Basically we laugh a lot, which is terrific. As they say, Laughter Is The Best Medicine. It takes the edge off of the trials-and-tribulations of our everyday lives. I’ve been ordering the salad bar lately at Marie Callender’s and with all the chat going on among us, it seems I haven’t been going back up for food that much. It’s great. The last time we were there we laughed wondering if they were going to give us the same table we had twice before. Maybe it was going to become “our table.” Ha! Our dinners together usually last about 2 hours and then we keep talking and laughing for about another 15 minutes, as we stand outside the restaurant. My daughter and I always leave saying, “That was so much fun” and that we can’t wait to do it again.
So, no wild night at bars, or clubs with too much drinking and too much partying along with hangovers (the next morning) for me and my “girls.” Just plain, “clean” fun at a quiet restaurant adding up to a great “Girls’ Night Out.”
