Cute Father’s Day Picture Frame Craft

If you are looking for a low-cost, easy craft idea that’s sure to pull at dad’s heartstrings, here it is. This cute picture frame is not only inexpensive to make, it’s also a great activity to do with your child. Your child will delight and take pride in making something special for dad that can be a lasting keepsake.

What You’ll Need:

• Newspaper for easier clean up

• Unfinished wooden frame. These are sold at most craft stores. Michaels (www.michaels.com) has a great selection. They are typically made of pine and come in a variety of sizes and shapes.

• Spray glue

• Craft glue

• Glitter in various colors

• Uncooked pasta assortment. Buy a variety of smaller shaped pastas – seashells, macaroni, curly pasta, etc.

• Picture of your child (or children).

How to Make the Frame:

The wooden frame will typically have some type of paper insert in the frame section. Leave that piece of paper in while making your frame. This will make sure you don’t get glitter and glue all over the place.

Put newspaper down below your frame to create a workspace and insure you don’t get glue and glitter on your furniture.

Using craft glue, help your child glue the various pieces of pasta on the front of the frame. They can make a pattern or randomly place the pasta around the frame. Let the pasta dry completely. Once the pasta is dry, spray the border of the frame with spray glue. Act quickly once you have sprayed the frame and sprinkle glitter all over the border of the frame. Gently tap off the excess glitter. You can use a single glitter color or multiple colors. Allow frame to dry completely.

Remove paper insert and replace with a photo of your child. Voila! You’ve made a cute, unique gift for dad that your child will be very proud to give to dad.

Alternatives:

There are several ways to build on this concept. Instead of pasta, you could use small rocks, beads, sea shells, or any other small trinkets. You could also use stickers or foam letters to add “Dad” to the frame or your child’s name. To dress up the frame, you could add a bow or a hanging ribbon. The possibilities are endless!
