Cheap Clothing Stores in Greensboro

If you’re looking to go shopping but don’t have a lot of money, try some of Greensboro’s cheapest clothing stores.

High Quality Used Clothing Stores:

1.) The Clothesline: 901 Spring Garden St.
The Clothesline is one of two Greensboro clothing stores that buys and sells used clothes, but only accepts clothing in excellent condition. They have a pretty wide variety, too, from business wear to vintage clothes to clothing for college kids and teenagers. They also have a lot of shoes, jewelry, and various sundry items including makeup. You can find a Gap or Express shirt there for about seven dollars or less. The vintage clothing is more expensive.

2) Plato’s Closet: 2310 Battleground Ave.
Plato’s is the other store that buys and sells used clothing only in excellent condition. Plato’s is marketed towards a younger demographic and sells clothes mainly for teenagers and young adults. They also only sell clothes that are in current style and mostly buy mall brands (American Eagle, Abercrombie, Express, Wet Seal, Mudd, etc). They have a great selection of jeans and tops and even have a men’s section (much smaller than the women’s but still decent). They also have a clearance rack with some great bargains. You just have to be careful with this – sometimes the clothing on the clearance rack is damaged. Sometimes, though, it’s just there because it has been in the store for a while.

Thrift Stores:

3.) Goodwill: 3921 Battleground Ave., 1235 S. Eugene St., 1421-C E. Cone Blvd.
Goodwill is a charity so they are less picky about the clothing they accept, but if you look carefully you can often find some good items there for really really cheap. Goodwill is an especially good place to look for shoes because they have a wide selection of shoes that are often in good condition and incredibly inexpensive.

4.) Salvation Army: 307 W. Lee St.
Much like Goodwill, Salvation Army has a lot of clothing for cheap. Much of it is very out of style or not in great condition, but it’s a great place to shop if you like kitschy t-shirts and old dresses. (Sometimes the dresses are so old they’ve come back into style again! You never know what you’ll find at a thrift store).

5.) Carolina Thrift: 2703 High Point Rd.
Carolina Thrift is much like the two stores mentioned above (but not a charity or a chain). They have a lot of coats and a larger men’s selection than most. They also have a lot of various other things, including cheap furniture, appliances, and books.

Inexpensive New Clothing Stores:

6.) Rugged Wearhouse: 1312 Bridford Pkwy.
Rugged Wearhouse is great, because they carry name brands that are often in perfect condition for cheap. A lot of the clothing there is most likely overflow or items not selling as well as hoped from other stores. You will sometimes find clothing with holes or other damage, but these are mostly on racks together and are very cheap ($1 or $2). So if you don’t sew or just want to steer clear of damaged clothing, avoid the cheapest racks. Otherwise the clothes are cute, cheap, and plentiful. They have men’s, women’s, and children’s sections and also carry bras, underwear, socks, and various accessories including inexpensive sunglasses.

7.) Ross: 2803 Battleground Ave.
Ross carries cute, cheap clothing that is usually not brand name. They have a wide selection, and carry Misses, Juniors, Petites, and Plus Sizes (but it can be hard to find things because the store is usually pretty messy and things are often not where they should be). Just be careful – because the clothing is cheaper brands, it tends to be more cheaply made, which means holes, etc. I got a shirt there and wore it once for only a few hours when I discovered a hole right in the middle of the fabric (that had not been there originally).

8.) TJ Maxx: 2829 Battleground Ave.
TJ Maxx is very similar to Ross and a good one to go to if you’re going to Ross because it’s located in the same shopping center, within walking distance. They’re slightly more expensive than Ross and their junior selection is smaller.

9.) Kohl’s: 3315 Battleground Ave, 1209 Battleground Ave, 1210A Bridford Pkwy.
Kohl’s is not necessarily known for being incredibly inexpensive (the prices are usually about mid-range) but they have great sales and coupons, and a large selection of clothing that is cheap enough to be affordable but not so cheap as to be easily damaged or apt to fall apart.
