Best Places to Eat in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh in my opinion has some of the finest restaurants in all of the USA. In this article I would like to discuss some of my favorite spots to grab a bite in the city of champions. Speaking of the city of champions, where else would you go to grab a bite to eat before a Steeler game other than Primanti Brothers? There is nothing else in the world like one of these huge Primanti Brother’s sandwiches. With grilled meat of your choice, a vinegar-based coleslaw, tomatoe slices, and hand cut french fries between two slices of Mancini’s italian bread you are guranteed to stay full all night. Some of the selections offered there are a capicola and cheese, pastrami and cheese, and the #2 best seller besides the beer, The Pitts-Burgher Cheese Steak.

If you are a breakfast person there is no other place to go in all of the city besides Pamela’s Diner. It may be a little busy on a weekend morning but it is worth the wait. If you are in the mood for something on the sweeter side I would recommend trying the banana walnut pancakes. The crepe style hotcakes, stuffed with chocolate chips, bananas and whipped cream are not something you will want to miss. The crepe style pancakes alone are outstanding. If you are not in the mood for something sweet try Gail’s Favorite Eggs which are lightly scrambled with cream cheese and scallions served with Lyonnaise potatoes and toast. The lyonnaise potatoes certainly beat your regular hash brown patty.

Another one of my favorite breakfast hotspots would be Tom’s diner located in the South Side or Dormont. After a heavy night of drinking Tom’s Diner will bring you back to life from the depths of hangover hell. I order Tommaso’s Scrambler which consists of three fluffy eggs scrambled with fresh pan fried potatoes, sausage, bacon, ham, green peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese with your choice of toast. Although this may not be something you want to order on a diet it certainly is worth the extra calories.

In the mood for a little Thai food? My recommendation would be Thai Me Up located in the South Side. Give the spicy basil noodles a whirl and don’t forget the pad thai. Thai Me Up does offer a heat scale that ranges from 1-10. If you like a little kick in your food be sure to ask for them to prepare you food Thai hot, which would be an 11 on the scale. It is the only way to go for those who like it hot. For those of you that live your life on the bland side, I would recommend trying a level 5.

Lets talk Italian…Lei hanno fame? My hands down favorite restaurant is Bravo Cucina Italiana located on Mcknight road. If you love Italian food there is no other place to go. My pick would be the Chicken Parmesan Milanese. This is a hand breaded chicken breast that is fried and topped with fresh mozzarella over a bed of herbed linguni and pomodoro sauce, my recommendation would be to ask for the Bravo sauce in place of the pomodoro sauce. The Bravo sauce is a roasted red pepper cream sauce the I could literally eat like soup. DELICIOUS! Also have a glass of wine with your dinner as Bravo’s has a large wine list to select from. I enjoy the Santa Magarita Pinot Grigeio with my chopped salad for starters. To finish off the evening try the tiramasu. The espresso soaked lady fingers melt in your mouth.

I hope that you enjoy my selections and hope you give them a try. There are many fabulous places to eat in Pittsburgh but the above are some of my favorites. Enjoy!
