Yearbook Dedications: What to Write

Finding just the right words for a yearbook dedication can be difficult. Often times just offering up a quote with a little meaning, saying that you’re proud or love them is all it takes to have a worthwhile yearbook dedication. Below are 10 quotes to put into the perfect yearbook dedication.

1. “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” — Malcolm X These words convey encouragement to the student to continue on and to do their best.

2. “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life.” — Plato This quote talks of a great future through education.

3. ” The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.” –Flora Whittemore When you choose these words you are telling the student to make careful choices.

4. ” Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can – there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.” –Sarah Caldwell When a student might take a few shortcuts along the way, you might want them to know that it is more important to pay attention by using this quote.

5. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” –Eleanor Roosevelt Some students need to know that when others might not believe in them, they still can’t give up. It’s belief in yourself that matters most.

6. ” There is a good reason they call these ceremonies ‘commencement exercises’. Graduation is not the end, it’s the beginning. ” –Orrin Hatch This quote is meant specifically for a student who is finishing up at a school level, particularly high school or college. You are letting them know that just because they have finished this part of their life, life has just begun.

7. ” Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.” –Oprah Winfrey This quote tells the student that you need to always do your best, even when it doesn’t seem like it matters; the next move depends upon it.

8. ” Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose.” –Tom Krause This is meant for the student who may not have achieved as he or she would have liked, but needs to know the effort is just as important as succeeding.

9. ” I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” –Abraham Lincoln This quote tells that while some things may seem unnecessary now, there will come a time when you can see its importance.

10. ” When all’s said and done, all roads lead to the same end. So it’s not so much which road you take, as how you take it.” –Charles de Lint This quote is more about being a good person, making good choices and doing what is right in general.

Whatever quote you choose, make sure it means something between you and the student you are dedicating it to.
