Witchcraft: The Power and Magic of Words

We all use them, some of us more eloquent then others. Some of us know big overbearing ones, other only plain and simple ones. They come in all different shapes and sizes. They are used by both old and young alike and are no respecter of either Race or Creed. They are everyday and yet powerfully magical. I am of course talking about words.

As Children most of us have been taught over and over again that: “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!” Sadly of course most of us can not abide by this wise saying. We use thousands of Words daily and most of them are a pure waste of breath. We all know those that talk only for the joy of hearing their own Voice with nothing to contribute of any value at all.

Words like Love, Hate, Anxiety, and Friendship are just throw away words in our Society. We love this and that, give our love to almost complete Strangers while we hate the way we look, the way something tastes etc. Words no longer seem to have any real meaning to us. They are just something to fill up the emptiness and silence in a Room. We get surprised when our wishes come true. How often have you wished someone or something out of your life in anger? How often have you told a person that you hated their guts, only to find out later that something bad had befallen that same person?

What about in your relationship? How often have you spoken ill of your Partner and have been spiteful, mean spirited, wished them gone from you? Told them you would like nothing better then for them to disappear from your life?

You may ask your-self what all that has to do with Witchcraft

As a Witch /Priestess I take Words extremely serious. Words have Power in them; a spell is often cast by simple thinking it or speaking it out. While spell casting, when you have nothing else at hand or you need to cast at a moments notice, you will have to use Words to bring your desired outcome about. That is correct; Words and your Will Power, nothing more or less. Once you enter the Magical Realm, you enter your magical place, your mind space your words, every word is accountable. You should never use them lightly. In our everyday lives we can take Words back with at times nothing more then a small emotional scare, in the magical World however you can not. Thoughtless speech, unkind Words formed in the way of a curse brought into existence and you can not talk your way out of them once they are spoken.

Even the Christians believe that there is Power in the Word. Of course here they refer to the Word of their God, but they do have the principle statement correct.

Let me show you an example of what I mean

Let me take the word “hate” for an example. “Hate”, is an extreme emotion with a very serious potential outcome. If “I hate” something I wish it gone out of my reality and out of my life. I wish harm on it, to make it stop existing. It bothers me; its very existence offends me to the very core of my being. Let me expand a bit further on my example. It is heinous and you have already committed murder to the thing you hate in your mind. Look up the meaning of the word hate here: http://www.selfknowledge.com/43142.htm

Let us assume that I have a extremely noisy and rude Neighbor (most of us have one of those) who lets his dog bark all night long while I desperately try to get some sleep having to wake up at 4 am in the morning to go to work. Do I wish my Neighbor and his dog death and destruction? Do I wish they would fall of the face of the earth? NO! I don’t want them to get hurt; I just want them to be silent at night and a little more considerate. I extremely dislike him and his dog (who by the way just follows his nature – I can’t blame the dog for being a dog) and at the most wish the Owner of the Animal some sleepless nights of his own. After several Nights of not getting enough sleep, I may wish him some extent of bodily harm, like a major headache or insomnia would be nice. But other then that, I want nothing bad to befall him.

Let us assume further that there is a Child Molester that just moved into our Area (gratefully there is none that I am aware off) and he has been hanging a lot around the schools and playgrounds again. By law, we the Parents can not do anything about it. We are not even permitted to “gently encourage him” to move away, by explaining to him what might happen should he desire to show our kids some “love”. Now this person, I wish a nice slow painful death that starts at the tip of his littlest toe and works itself in slow possession up to the top of his hair. Preferably with a lot of painful sores etc in the meantime and paralyzes so all he can do is suffer. Yes, I hate this person with a passion. I hate everything he stands for. His breathing offends me. The very Idea that he is alive and able to threaten our little kids makes my blood boil.

I hope you see the difference. One is a lot more lethal in desire then the other. I could even take it further. If I dislike someone and they are in a fire, I would still stop to help, however if I hated that person I would be more liable of throwing straw on the blaze to help nature along then empty my bladder to put the fire out.

Another one of those Words, we completely misname is “Love”. Now that bothers me more then anything else. Love is something sacred. Something that you should never speak in vain. I love my Husband and my Children, which means I would gladly give my life for them. It means that I go through a lot of discomforts and pain to make their life worth living. The thought of loosing my loved ones makes me hurt inside and the loose of them breaks my heart.
On the other side, I really like and enjoy my new red dress. I don’t want to lose it, but if it gets taken away, then I will not think very long about it. My Friend, I really like my friend, I even mildly love her in a sisterly manner, but unlike my kids and my husband that love does not consume me.
I don’t give my love to my Friends husband. I send my best wishes, I say hello, I send my regards, but no I don’t send him my love. That one stays were it belongs. With my own husband!

Those are only a couple of examples of the thoughtless use of Words, with most of them more and likely used even by your mouth.

Let’s take it a bit further still. Let me show you how simple words can easily turn into a spell:

I wish…. Is another one of those little phrases we always spout without much thinking. I have no clue how many times in a Day I hear: “I wish….” With a wide variety of wishes that are not really thought through or meant. Here is a word to the wise for those of you that wish to gain some wisdom. Be very careful what you wish for, you might just get it. And if you don’t get very precise in what you wish, you may just get what you don’t want at all. Remember that spell casting is nothing more then making a deep felt wish and releasing it into the universe with all your minds power behind it.

Let us assume you need to make some extra money to pay a bill or you may wish to purchase an Item you need for your house or Business. I wish I could have XAmount of money so I could Purchase or pay for Item Y. You have just started to open several Doors in the Universe for yourself. You have made your desire and intent known to all those that are out there. With others words “ears are now pricked”. Now, if you let it go at this nothing more may happen. Most of us however don’t leave it at this simple statement.

If I was to cast a spell, I would continue my Spell somewhere along these lines.

I am calling upon all those watching over me, aiding me and I am thanking you for all you have given to me and have allowed me to experience.
I am acknowledging my Guardians, my Guides and all those Spirits and Creatures living and visiting in my home. You are welcome here.

I bring to you my desire, my wish to bring to me X Amount of money so I may Purchase or Pay Y. I am not asking to get anything for free, but I am asking you to open the Pathway for me that I may take that which is rightfully mine already. Please show me that which I need to know and the way to achieve my goal. I thank you for your guidance and aid.

This is a simple spell thought or spoken. I have already claimed it as mine, but I am willing to give back in fair trade.

However, if I was to continue my wish with nothing but feeling sorry for myself how I could never have such and such, think myself as poor little me etc I may easily drive my desired object away from me.

Negative Thoughts – a way to curse yourself

If you are one of those overly humble people that always go around and hide your light under your bushel you are not doing yourself any favors. Worst yet are those that constantly doubt their own talents and or self-worth.

By saying: I could never be as good as “Name of the Person you think your-self lesser then”, you have already made the conscious decision that you will never be as good as…. It will never happen, because you have already given up the fight.

My example: I love to draw and I am a self-taught Artisan. I admire Vallejo and Frazetta. My Artwork is nowhere as wonderful as either of those fantastic Artists. However, I refuse to believe that it will never be that good. So my statement is: “I am nowhere as good as Vallejo or Frazetta, but I am going to keep trying until I can get as close as possible for me to get to that excellence.

Do you see the difference? Perhaps I will never be another Frazetta, but I will not stop until I am going to be my own very personal best with their talents being my goal.

Have you ever said things like: “I am not pretty enough, he would never like me!” or “I am always unlucky in love, no nice person would ever like me.”

Well, truthfully with that attitude you are right. You have already decided that it would never happen or that you are always going to be a looser. Until you change your mind about your-self and that you are destined to be a Victim, the universe will just quit trying to bring good things to you. I can almost take bets that you have ran or ran off positive things in your life, just because you believed you did not deserve them or that they would turn ugly anyway.

It is in the tone of voice

Words alone, can at times, be completely twisted by the tone of voice you use.
“Yeah, I love you too.” Said with a sneer is more like an insult. When you use a Word it can have different meanings all together, just by the Tone of voice you use. Will Power with Words are Spells, remember? Will Power is also an Attitude! Your Tone of Voice shows your Attitude very precisely.

Using words you really didn’t mean

Oh that is our domain ladies. We are good at that one. How often has your husband asked you what is wrong. You looked him dead in the face and said:”Nothing!” Followed by being angry for the rest of the Week at him not knowing what was wrong. Or the words “Don’t ask!” Well, you just told him not to. I have heard you are horrible at: blank, after being told that about the dozen times in anger, I quit trying. Now I flat out say: “Yes dear, you are right. I am horrible at Blank, so why should I even try anymore. I will never be good enough for you!”

Phrases like: I don’t want you anymore, or I don’t love you anymore, set the Person free. You have just thrown them away, so you better be sure you really meant it.

Again, what does that have to do with Witchcraft? Once more, no matter what, when you use Words with intent you are starting to set Actions in Motion. You can banish like in the Phrase used above. When you state that you no longer want a Person or a thing it is now free to find a new purpose or use in life. The Universe will start casting about for his or hers or its next level or step on the path. Remember, for everything there is a Season, be certain that you don’t pronounce out of arrogance or pain a Season to be over when this is not what you desire.

Mean spirited Words can tear a Person down, while Praise can build someone up

A word of appreciation can inspire someone to greater achievements then constant disapproval. Sometimes criticism is necessary and can not be avoided, but you should always end it with a kind word or a word of encouragement. Here again we use everyday magic. It is the simplest of magical behaviors. By letting someone know that you believe in them, that you have added your desire for their success to theirs you have just strengthened the blessings in that person’s life. A good word can give you Wings; while a mean word will be the stone around your neck.

There is honesty and then there is honesty

You should not lie, that only will get you into trouble. It furthermore brings negativity into your life if you are ever found out. As a Priestess or Witch you have to content your-self with conscience as we. There are times however when it is kinder not to tell the truth. Like a husband being asked if a certain outfit makes you look fat. I hate to say it but if you are already overweight the outfit won’t make a difference. Now it would be honest to say, your fat makes you look fat. After that statement however you will either be hit with a frying pan or will look for a real good divorce lawyer. Instead simple saying that outfit looks nice on you or I like blank outfit better on you, is a better response. You did not lie, but you got out of having to lie. Sometimes it is not necessary to be brutally honest. Use a little Diplomacy instead. Telling someone that you can live without them, is a true statement after all, but it will damage your relationship for its remainder. Your partner will always remember that statement and will live in accordance to it.

A statement a Boss is very good at making. You can be replaced!” That too is correct; everyone is replaceable in a work environment. However you may wish to be very careful when you throw that statement around. You may find that the Person now will find ways to be able to be replaced or to replace you. By using black mailing statements or unkind statements you are only making your life more miserable, but everyone else’s around you as well.

A closing thought. The next time you decide you want to say something negative, want to tear yourself or someone else verbally down. The next time you feel the urge to think a hateful thought, I ask you to first think of the consequences. What if you just cast a spell into the air? How would you feel if your wish came true? Be careful when using words. Be kind without being a pansy. Be sure you really mean what you say and don’t just speak in anger. There is Power in the use of Words!

I would suggest the following two Books to you. I believe both of them to be written rather well.
Write your own Magic (The hidden Power in your Words) by Richard Webster

Reach your True Potential (How to overcome Self-Defeating Behavior) by Sheri O. Zampelli – This is not a Witchcraft oriented Book, but can be found in a Self-help Section of the Bookstore or Library. It is however Magic in as far as your Behavior towards your-self and others is all part of magical living and behavior.
