Why Should You Go to Montgomery College?

Students who attend community colleges have earned a reputation of being “slow,” “stupid,” or just not “smart enough.” There is often this misconception that something is wrong with the individual that made them end up at a junior college rather than a 4-year school. Well, I’m here to set the records straight. The reality is that everyone has a story to tell and:

-Not everyone feels comfortable taking out large sums of student loans.

-We don’t all come from wealthy families. We don’t all have parents who make top of the line salaries and can afford to send us to Ivy League schools. Some of us prefer to take the independent route and gain work experience while going to school. So we need a school that will offer flexible class schedules to accommodate our needs and community colleges, like Montgomery College are famous for this.

-Unless you receive a good scholarship, college is expensive.

Resources are scarce. With the economic downturn, there are people with college degrees who are struggling to “make-ends-meet.” Veterans are joining the face of the homeless. Educated people with college degrees and work experience can’t find jobs due to competition for limited jobs in the work force. This is the reality in the U.S. today.

In addition, people have student loans and debt to pay off. So people are looking for cost effective alternatives to meet their basic needs and finance their education because it’s the smart thing to do. If you’re thinking of going back to school to make a career change or to qualify for a higher paying job, go to Montgomery College. A lot of people go to Montgomery College for different reasons:

1. One of the best community colleges in the country

Many students go off to Ivy League schools with scholarships to Harvard, Yale and Princeton.

2. Save yourself from two years of debt

Without scholarships, financial aid or grants, Montgomery College is affordable. Many students work and pay their way through school at full-time status.

3. Flexible schedules

Unlike most 4 year schools, Montgomery College offers a wide selection of evening and weekend classes to accommodate working students. I worked while attending school at full-time status and found it empowering at the end to be able to juggle the responsibilities of both work and school.

4. Professors are phenomenal

I graduated from MC with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Although I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree at a more prestigious school, Montgomery College will always have a special place in my heart. I met people from all walks of life and I had some amazing professors that taught me to be a better student and person. I will never forget my Sociology professor who worked for the Census Bureau, a yoga instructor and a PhD student at Howard University. Or the Nutrition professor who sparked my interest in health related issues. She was passionate, articulate, caring and charismatic. Anyone who can keep me awake at 8am is exceptional. Or my Asian Literature and History professors, who travelled the world, taught globally and brought their experiences to the classroom.

Going to Montgomery College was one of the best decisions I have ever made. If I had to go back in time and do it over again, I would do everything the exact same way.

Whether you’re looking to change career directions or return to school to earn a college degree you’ve always wanted, Montgomery College will help make it possible for you to reach your goals. For more information, visit their website: www.montgomerycollege.edu.
