Volunteer Opportunities in Salem, Oregon

Volunteering is an opportunity to give back to the community in which we live in. Volunteering can make you feel wonderful, and it is a win-win situation for those involved. It is to promote good and to improve the quality of human life.

A great place for a volunteer opportunity is in one of the many Middle schools of the Salem Keizer School District, here in Salem, Oregon. Salem Keizer School District has many opportunities for you as a parent or grandparent, or even as a community member to give back to the community.

The Schools have set a policy to “establish and maintain a healthy, safe, drug-free environment,” which prohibits the possession, use, sale and/or distribution of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs on district property or at school-sponsored activities and establishes appropriate disciplinary action.

Helping at these schools to do some of the following can help to promote a healthy and safe environment for these students. Volunteers are needed in chaperoning school dances, volunteers are needed for field trips, they are needed for classroom help, library help, working at book fairs and helping with many athletic events too. There is the LSAC, (Local School Advisory Committee) group that needs help organizing fund raisers for the school and taking on several different projects for the schools also. There is always something for a volunteer to do.

It is very simple to get started. Go to the school office and fill out a criminal history background check and when that comes back, approved you may start volunteering your time.

Another great place to volunteer is for Project Able. This is a non profit organization. They provide peer to peer services. They also provide support for individuals recovering from mental health, and other issues.

Their mission statement is “These supports embrace human dignity, the capacity for individuals to recover and promote life long empowerment.

The programs from Project Able are targeted to provide learning and growth that is personal. They provide mutual support, leadership development, and service to others. There are so many programs that are offered that you can volunteer with.

They have TSP which is Trauma Survivor Project Program. Peer supports help with needs like sitting in an emergency crisis situation, supporting them while making their community connections.

They have a PCC Peer Mentor Program that has people who have struggled with mental illness and they offer their strength and most of all hope to individuals.

They have a Peer Wellness Project where volunteers can offer support and encouragement for those to recognize that active pursuit of personal health can be very empowering and fun.
Project ABLE stands for A Better Life Experience. We want everyone to have their life be the best it can be and volunteering for an organization likes this is really a great opportunity.

You can call their number and find out about volunteer opportunities. 503-363-3260. You can go online and see their website and watch their video and see if you can be a peer support for someone.

Volunteer opportunities are always waiting for the right individual. Why not try and volunteer today and give back to your community?
