Trader Joe’s is a really fun store. I always seem to end up buying a new product; either new to me or new to the store. I purchased Trader Joe’s brand Organic Creamy Tomato Soup. I love soup and am always game to try a new brand or flavor. My grandfather, who also loved soup, used to say, “you kids were raised on soup.”
This is in Tetra Pak packaging to help keep it fresh. Unopened, the shelf life is approximately one year; based upon the manufacture and expiration dates. Once opened, you can keep it in the refrigerator for seven to ten days.
32 fluid ounces provides you with four servings of one cup (8 ounces) each. I purchased the low sodium version, which is only 140 mg. (Especially compared to regular Campbell’s Tomato Soup which has 1,420 mg of sodium to an equal serving.) Each serving is only 90 calories, 30 of which are from fat. This soup is high in Vitamin A and Potassium. The package advertises as gluten free.
Admittedly, the color of the soup was a bit disconcerting as it was orange, like carrot juice, and not red. The consistency was perfect at a semi-thick-ish state.
The flavor was good; tomato notes were definitely present and it was creamy. However, I did find the flavor very bland. I chose to doctor it up by adding a very small amount of freshly ground sea salt, freshly ground black pepper and cayenne red pepper and the flavor was incredible!
Value packed at only $2.49, this is a great buy.
Bottom line: Recommended.
