Fun Places to Visit in South Georgia

South Georgia has many great places to visit. The weather is usually perfect and the thrill for adventure can be discovered, if you know where to go. Here are a few of the top places, must see attractions and parks. They can’t be beat, for summer fun. I have provided some links to these fantastic places at the bottom of this article.

1. Wild Adventures Park – Valdosta, Georgia
This park is unlike any other. It has everything. Rides, attractions, daily shows, concerts, animals and so much more. For thrills, there are roller coasters and river rapids to brave. The animal exhibits are fantastic. They have a wide variety of animals on display, from antelope to zebra. The list is so long but, I must name some, they are so unusual. This park displays parrots, camels, bears, tigers, bobcats, donkeys, boas, pythons, rattlesnakes, deer, emu, lions, llamas, giraffe, ostrich, monkeys, kangaroo, sloths and yaks, just to name a few. The list is endless and you feel like you have been on an adventure, after viewing all of these creatures. This park provides an excellent learning environment for all, along with tons of fun. There are classic family rides and so many things to do. You also get free admission to Splash Island Water Park, with your paid admission to Wild Adventures Park. There are special rides for the smaller children and even an old western train ride! These are built just for the little ones and they are great! There are daily shows like wild west guns and amazing cats, hollywood bears and shazzam, just to name a few. Additional attractions are adventure golf, arcade, adventure quest race and midway games. There are also many live concerts held here. The music is rock, country and a wide variety of mixes that will please everyone. Big stars perform here often. This park is worth every cent of admission. It is inexpensive and I highly recommend staying a few days to take in all of the wonder this park offers it’s guests.

2. Providence Canyon State Park – Lumpkin, Georgia
This park is one of the true wonders of Southern Georgia. It is also known as the Little Grand Canyon and it does not disappoint. This park will take your breath away and is worth seeing. You will never forget it. It is one of the most fascinating places to view in Georgia and many people have never heard of it. This park is in a very rural area. This park is so magnificent, it is hard for me describe, except to tell you to visit the website and look at the pictures. Then, imagine it deeper and bigger. It astounded me, with it’s depth and beauty. The sheer drop of the canyon and the wideness of it is something that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. I was very impressed by it and it is a truly magical place to visit. This park is also close to Alabama, where a huge lake, Lake Walter F. George, is located. This is worth seeing also, if you have time. Since Providence Canyon is located in the middle of nowhere, almost, you may want to plan to stay at a larger nearby town and make a day trip. There are camping and cottages available. Visiting this park will provide a lifetime memory that you will enjoy.

3. Chehaw Wild Animal Park – Albany, Georgia
This park is actually a collection of parks. The wild animal park is very popular among the various parks of chehaw. I will explain this, as I go. Chehaw wild animal park was created by Jim Fowler, of Wild Kingdom fame. So, you know, already, this park will be something special. It is. There are boardwalks that take you through the animal habitat and there are many wonderful varieties of animals to look at. This park has a rhino, bald eagles, lemurs, a cheetah, bison and zebra. There is a children’s farm close by, that is delightful. There, you will find miniature horses, goats and pigs, to name a few. For more thrills, there is an amphitheater that holds special programs and a reptile and small animal house. This wild animal park is special because it exhibits it’s animals in their natural habitats and also exhibits not only exotic animals but, native ones, as well. You get to walk right by cypress swamps and this can be quite exciting. I love the wild animal park but, that is not all this place has to offer. They show movies in the park, where you can spread your blanket, unpack a picnic basket and enjoy. There is a Native American Cultural Festival held on November 16 – 18, 2007. This festival is held every year and has become a Chehaw Park tradition. It is fantastic. For the summer, they have dog shows, breakfast with the cheetahs and much more. This park has many parks within it’s gates. There is a play park, a BMX bicycle trail, a wild trial, campgrounds, picnic pavilions and much more. This park also has a creekside education center that you and your family can rent for meetings, reunions, receptions and weddings. It is large and has a kitchen area, many rooms and will seat three hundred, if needed. It also overlooks the Muckalee Creek and has an outdoor deck. This park has so much to offer and is fun. It is also a great educational experience for all ages.

There are some links to all of these exciting places at the bottom of this article. Each site has directions, areas of interest and places to stay, while visiting these fantastic places! These places make South Georgia an excellent place to plan a visit to.
