Top Ten Songs for Mom on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a special time for ladies each year. Chances are even if you’re not a mom, you have a mom to celebrate this special day with. This is a top ten list of songs I chose that are about moms and for mom! I am a mom myself and many of these songs have significant meanings!

Somebody’s Hero: This is a country song sung by Jamie O’Neal. This is such a beautiful song about a mom’s importance in her daughter’s life. She doesn’t have a “9-5” job because her job is being a full time mom. It goes through her life at different stages like feeding time, her wedding, and her daughter visiting her at a nursing home. Very touching! To hear this song, click here.

In My Daughter’s Eyes: Again this is another country song, though this time sung by Martina McBride. I chose this song specifically because it reminds me about my daughter, Madelyn. I will admit that I get tears in my eyes when I hear it. This song is a great way to express about how moms feel about their daughters. She sings “In my daughter’s eyes I can see the future, a reflection of who I am and what I will be”, such a powerful line! To hear this song, click here.

A Song For Mama: This is a R&B; song sung by Boys II Men. This is a very touching song for moms especially sung by a group of men! I chose it because it shows that men also care for their moms as well as daughters. They sing “Loving you is like food to my soul” and truer words were never sung! To hear this song, click here.

Mama Said: This an oldie but a goodie sung by The Shirelles. This is a song about mama’s advice. “There will be days like this mama said”, is a line from the song and boy does that ring true! This song was popular in the 1960’s and is still known today. I chose it because I have a fond memory of growing up listening to this song with my gram singing along. Perfect to play for her on Mother’s Day! To hear this song, click here.

I Hope You Dance: This is a country hit sung by LeeAnn Womack. It carries a most endearing message through the lyrics. The video shows a mother singing to her young daughters. I chose this song because it is a message I myself would give to my own daughter. It is a very powerful message for women in general and most definitely should be played on Mother’s Day! Mr. Mom: This is a funny country hit sung by Lonestar. This has to be the most fun out of all the picks! It is a sort of a spoof of a dad trying to be a stay at home mom. I chose it for it’s lighthearted comical lyrics. There’s bubble gum in the baby’s hair, sweet potatoes in my lazy chair” are just some of the fun things this “Mr. mom” goes through in one day! If you have never heard this one, you must have a go at it! To hear this song, click here.

Dear Mama: This is a rap hit sung by Tupac. This song is very original and is an ode to a mom of a “thug”. In the lyrics he raps about the struggles him and his mom had. It is amazing to see how much he cares for him mom after all the hard times they went through. I can relate to this song alot, some for the same reasons he raps about. Even if rap isn’t your thing, you should definitely check this song out. To hear this song, click here.

No Charge: Again this is another country hit sung by Tammy Wynette. This song is absolutely amazing! It begins with a little girls list to her mom about being “owed” for chores she had done. When she sings about the note she wrote on the back of the list, I get tears in my eyes. This is one heck of a country song! “When you add it all up the cost of real love is no charge”, a fantastic message to those we love. To hear this song, click here.

Mama: This is a pop hit sung by The Spice Girls. This was chosen because it is a daughters prospective about why her mama did the things she did for her. The video is most touching because it includes photos of the girls being held by their moms. It is a great song to play for your mom coming from her daughter. Even if your not a fan of this girl group, you still should check it out! To hear this song, click here.

The Perfect Fan: This is another pop hit sung by The Backstreet Boys. This is an ode to their moms for being there for them always. It is a really touching song sang by a bunch of men! A perfect song for mom from her son or sons. I chose this because with a son on the way of my own, I would like him to think about me like this somewhere down the line! “You showed me everything that I should know” are some of the lyrics.
