Top 5 Student PCs for Under $500

If you are a student, you will probably find that you may need a new computer for your classes this fall. There are a lot of brands out there, but a new computer can be hard on the budget. Most computers under $500 can be lacking in some features, but there are some bargains out there. The following is a description of the top five computers for students that give you more for your dollar.

The Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036 is a great computer for the classroom or for doing online studies. This computer has a triple core which gives you a little more speed than the normal low end laptop and it is small for easy transport. The drawback to this machine is that is has very inadequate speakers. You would probably want to pick up some ear phones to hear your video and sound properly. Price for this computer is between $400 and $500.

The Acer Aspire 5315 offers a slick look with a solid construction. It is Vista enabled but would work faster with a lower end operating system. The pros of this machine include a 15.4 inch screen and three USB ports. The negative aspects is the weight and its lack of speed. It does not come with a dual core processor and it weighs just a little more than six pounds.

The Zonbu Notebook is a different kind of laptop. This inexpensive sleek computer claims to be virus free. Based in an Everex notebook, your hardware and software is aligned with the Zonbu virus free provider. The notebook allowed the easy use of external keyboards, mice, and other accessories. The down side of the Zonbu Notebook is that it does not allow you to install anything at all. You have what you have and though functional, it takes the fun out of downloading new products and software.

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is a refreshing laptop that though it has a small screen (10.1 inches) it has the power and speed of top name machines. It comes equipped with the basic spreadsheet and word processing programs and without a start up menu, it will be ready to go in about ten seconds. The negatives about this computer is that it only has a three hour battery and the mouse is hard to work with. An external mouse is suggested.

It you want speed and a built in Linux system, you might want to try a Everex Cloudbook. This machine uses more online versions of word processors which sounds negative at first. The good thing is that is frees up space for photos, music, and other personal keepsakes on the computer. There are negative things to say about this system. The left and right click buttons are in an awkward position and the start up time takes about a minute.
