Top 10 Rap Songs for Karaoke

There are thousands (maybe even more) great songs for karaoke. The great part about karaoke is that choosing the right song can have the entire bar singing along with you. Of course, pick the wrong song, and the entire bar can go dead, ruining the fun mood and atmosphere, and even cause a number of people to leave. You do not want that kind of “mood-killer” attached to you.

The next time you get up to sing on karaoke night, sing one of the great rap songs on this list and you will make sure that your choice leads to the first scenario, not the second. So, without further ado, the 10 Ten Rap Songs for Karaoke.

California Love – 2Pac and Dr. Dre: California Love is one the greatest, most well known rap songs ever made. Released at the height of 2Pac’s popularity, you will be hard pressed to find a bar or club where at least a dozen other people (probably a lot more) do not know this song, and will not want to get up and sing it a long with you.

Rapper’s Delight – The Sugarhill Gang: Rapper’s Delight is often heralded as one of (if not the) first rap songs made, and is credited with bringing about the extreme popularity that has foisted rap into the forefront of American pop culture over the years. Release in 1979, Rapper’s Delight is a well-known, and very popular song, even with people who not even born when it was released – a great addition to the list of the 10 rap songs for karaoke.

Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice: Yes, of course, you may feel cheesy getting up and singing Ice Ice Baby. I mean, Vanilla Ice was essentially a one-hit wonder and has long-been forgotten in American society. However, choose this song and you will be surprise at the response (it is extremely counterintuitive) you get. The truth is Ice Ice Baby is a cult classic, and nearly everyone who has heard it remembers the words, and secretly enjoys the song – the beat is phenomenal and its pace is slow enough for the average person to sing along with. Ice Ice Baby is the guilt pleasure of the list.

Parents Just Don’t Understand – The Fresh Price (Will Smith): This is old school Will Smith (before the movies, and before the TV show. Parents Just Don’t Understand was a great teen anthem for young kids growing up, looking for a clean, but truthful representation of real life. Who here can honestly say that they grew up without (at least a million times) saying to themselves, and their friends, that their parents just don’t understand? Not many! This is a great song that brings everyone back to their childhood, and the good times that their parents tried their hardest to ruin for them.

Hollaback Girl – Gwen Stefani: Hollaback Girl is a women’s anthem, sang proudly by women who want to show their independence and their indifference to the games that men play. Start signing this song and almost every woman in the bar will get up and sing (or dance) with you. Additionally, most men, though they admit it, enjoy this song as well because they find Gwen Stefani extremely attractive. Regardless of the reasons, this is one of those songs that will have almost everyone in the bar singing proudly (or mumbling the words under their breath at the very least).

Billie Jean – Michael Jackson: There was a time, long, long ago, when Michael Jackson was cool, popular, and his songs were repeated by millions around the world. Billie Jean is one of those songs from that long-ago era. An instant, and enduring classic (it is tough to be both), Billie Jean has a great beat, a cool story and excellent lyrics. Billie Jean is great for those thirty-somethings looking for a great rap song from their era that is still cool enough for the kids to sing along with.

This is How We Do It – Montell Jordan: Montell Jordan was one of the smoothest R&B;/Rap singers of his era. This is How We Do it is one of those songs that everyone who lived through the 90’s and early 2000’s has heard – either on the radio, at a club or at a high-school dance. It is also a very smooth, semi-slow song that is easy to sing along with, making a great karaoke choice.

Big Poppa – Notorious BIG: Biggie, or the Notorious BIG, was well-known as Big Poppa, and Big Poppa was his anthem. This rap classic highlighted the life of luxury, excess and seduction that Biggie lived during his all-too-short career. Smooth rhythmic beats, slow, easy-to-sing lyrics, and a timeless popularity makes this perhaps the most popular, and best, choice for a rap song to sing on karaoke night.

My Adidas – Run DMC: You cannot have a list of rap songs for anything (including the best rap songs for karaoke) without having at least one Run DMC song on it. Run DMC, and their ultra-popular class, My Adidas, defined a new generation of rap listeners, and introduced more people to rap music than any other song ever has. My Adidas may be the best song you can choose on your next visit to karaoke night.

Last, but certainly not least, is an all-time favorite.

The Humpty Dance – Digital Underground: Digital Underground was extremely popular in the early 90’s, building a strong, and still loyal, cult following. And, even better, 2Pac got his big-stage rap debut as a roadie, backup dancer and eventually, performer with Digital Underground. The Humpty Dance is Digital Underground’s best known song, and for good reason. Humpty Dance is nearly a five-minute standup comedy routine set to music. The hilarity and outright brashness of the lyrics make this is one of the greatest songs you could ever choose for karaoke.

If you are tired of singing (and hearing) the same old songs every karaoke night, get up and sing one of these top 10 rap songs for karaoke the next time you are out. There is no guarantee that everyone will get up and sing and dance and have a great time (though most probably will), but at least they will not be put to sleep, or forced to leave, out of boredom.
