The Best Vampire Movies of All Time

If you are a fan of vampire movies the Halloween season of watching scary movies is nearly upon us. There is always something around this time of year that lures us into the clutches of vampires. They are after all, immortal beings with preternatural abilities. They are mesmerizing and glorious. They are dark and scary. The first true great vampire movie began with Nosferatu in 1922. Since then, we have all been fascinated with the notion of immortal life and the romance of a vampire’s kiss.

There are few places you can look today without smashing into something from Twilight. From tweens to adults you will find fans entranced by the allure and romance of Edward and Bella. There have been great vampire movies and there are vampire romances. Here is a peek at some of the very best vampire movies.

If you are looking for old time scary then you have to make sure you see Nosferatu. Yes, it is old, hokey and the vampire looks more like Frankenstein’s close cousin, but the actor makes you believe he’s a vampire. Creepy to the end of the film you will be hooked on this early film’s view of the vampire.

If you are an eighties fan then you can’t leave out Fright Night or The Lost Boys. Fright Night is a classic, eighties horror movie with a catchy look and feel. No one will ever forget the terrifying face of the female vampire in this 1985 film. The proverbial boy next door is on a quest to slay the vampire that has moved in next to him. The Lost Boys are a cult classic from 1987. This movie takes you into the life of a vampire coven that will make you laugh, thrill you and frighten you.

There is no other classic vampire movie than Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1992. This classic movie portrays the classic tale through the eyes of director Francis Ford Coppopla. Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder take center stage as young loves drawn into the snarls of Count Dracula. This movie follows the legend as written in the old time stories of Dracula.

A view of a vampire is not complete without Interview with a Vampire. There cannot be any better looking vamps than Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in 1994. Kirsten Dunst plays the third starring role as Claudia, the immortal child of Louis and Lestat the vampires. The storyline is take from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. The story is a mixed blend of romance, immortal life and vampire lure.

A frightening spin on the future of the world with vampirism as a disease is given to us in I am Legend. This film, starring Wil Smith gives a terrifying look at what the world would be like if vampires truly existed and were a disease that could spread to destroy civilization. A terror filled movie with lots of surprises, this one will keep you jumping out of your seat.

If you are interested in how to hunt vampires then you’ll want to take notes during John Carpenter’s Vampires. This action packed thriller follows a vampire hunter on his quest to rid the world of the vampire vermin. The movie is non-stop with lots of adventure.

Finally, no list is complete without Van Helsing. This film takes a look at the early legends of Transylvania and it’s connection to Dracula. The 2004 vampire classic features Hugh Jackman as a religious vampire hunter with a past. He is sent to help the last surviving ruling family of Transylvania and his connection to Vampires and other terrifying legends are revealed. A great deal of vampire legend and lore is included in this storyline.
