Spring Break Vacation Ideas: Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe, whether on the California or Nevada side of the lake can be just the thing for a Spring Break getaway. The beauty of the mountains and the lake are only the beginning of the fun you can have.

Obviously since Tahoe is one of the most pristine and beautiful lakes in the world, swimming, fishing and boating are always available and eminently desirable. The lake is an average of 989 feet deep with depths as far as 1685 feet. The shoreline is sandy and lined with trees for 30 miles on the Nevada side and 42 miles on the California side. At Lake level, the elevation is 6229 feet above sea level, with the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains surrounding it at 7000 feet elevation and above. Picturesque homes line the lake, mostly summer homes and skiing cabins. Some people live there year round.

If you’re over 21, the gaming and shows are abundant. Casinos line the Nevada side and sparkle in the evenings.

Spring Break: Lake Tahoe #2

The Best Western Truckee/Tahoe Inn is just one of the many fine places to stay during your vacation. Clean, spacious rooms will welcome you and your group whether large or small. Hot air balloon rides, rafting trips, and climbing are offered through this excellent resort.

Spring Break: Lake Tahoe #3

The Tahoe Queen is an authentic paddle wheeler, complete with dining and dancing as well as gaming. The Tahoe Queen floats majestically around the lake giving the guests a panoramic view of the water and shorelines. As evening falls, the lights of the surrounding homes and businesses begin to glitter and reflect in the deep blue waters.

Spring Break: Lake Tahoe #4

Imagine a romantic carriage ride through the streets and shoreline of historic South Shore. While the horse clip-clops down the streets, you can see the little shops, casinos and other tourists as you roll along.

Spring Break: Lake Tahoe #5

Squaw Valley isn’t very far from Lake Tahoe. It was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and remains a great tourist attraction even today. There are little shops and historical buildings filled with goodies and information for all ages. If the winter is hanging on during your stay, you can ski and snowboard on the fantastic slopes where the Olympic athletes once went for the gold! If spring has come in full force when you get there, back packing and horseback riding are favorite pastimes.

Spring Break: Lake Tahoe #6

Donner Lake is very close and easy to get to. The lake itself is clear blue and easy to see from I-80. Like Tahoe, it is lined with summer homes and ski cottages. Boreal Ski Resort is close by and offers skiing in the winter as well as hiking in the summer. There are several small shops and restaurants along Donner Lake for your eating and shopping needs.

Spring Break: Lake Tahoe #7

Do you play golf? There are some of the finest pro-am golf courses in the world within a short drive from Lake Tahoe (and at the Lake, as well).

For spring break, or a great vacation or even a spectacular honeymoon, you can’t beat Lake Tahoe for excitement and a huge variety of things to keep you happy while making memories to last a lifetime.
