Spring 2012 Wedding Dress Trends: A Breath of Fresh “I DO!”

As spring flowers bloom, so does a beautiful bride! Designers have introduced this season’s bridal fashions, and the runways were filled with gorgeous dresses that reflect their inspiration from the royally elegant Kate Middleton to the statuesque Angelina Jolie. Spring bridal gowns flaunt stunning colors, styles and fabrics, and fresh looks pay homage to classic elegance in lace and embellishments. Any bride-to-be should take a look at the bright new spring styles available for her special day.

Color

Yes, you heard right! Designers have become daring with bridal gown colors. The runways featured dresses in soft hues such as blush, rose, cream peach and gold. Brides preferring classic white may want to consider touches of color in the form of softly tinted embroidery, beading, flowers or cross-grain ribbons. For the more daring, designers splashed bridal runways with scarlet, green and other more dramatic colors.

Cut

Necklines dominated runways, with illusion necklines and flattering V-necks. Illusion necklines offer coverage with sheer or lace details. Plunging necklines flattered runway brides along the bust and back. Cap sleeves also made a strong appearance on runways and offer an alternative to the strapless dress. Cap sleeves were presented in lace and in some cases, barely-there-sheer fabrics. Bridal gowns also featured corset styles, accentuating the waist and flattering the bust. Va-va-voom slits give the spring bride opportunity to show off those gams – a look with which Angelina Jolie dominated the Oscars.

Fabric

Fabrics take on a gentle and romantic role in spring bridal dresses. Kate Middleton took our breath away with her stunning lace-sleeved dress that also featured embroidered detailing – a very classic look that appears throughout this season’s gowns. Fabrics range from having a bit of sheen to the classic matte. Beading and sparkles also embellished trims along the bust, waist and hem. Flowers decorated spring bridal dresses in the form of embroidery, flowers along the waist, organza petal appliques, and rose details along the back. Capelets also made a strong comeback on the runway, giving spring bridal dresses more versatility for a conservative look that can later spotlight a strapless, asymmetrical or plunging neckline.
