Simple Sand Dollar Frames for a Beach Wedding Reception Table

This a fun project s made out of real Sand Dollar. Be sure to use the real Sand Dollar on this simple project to add a substantial and expensive look to your simple wood frames. These Sand Dollar themed creations can be used in your home as well to decorate the fireplace mantel or even the buffet in your dining room. Simple bleached Sand Dollars make this craft project fun and easy for anyone!

To make this simple Sand Dollar picture frame kids will need:

Sand Dollars

1 inexpensive wood picture frame

Hot glue

Primer

Paint

Paint Brushes

Sand Paper

Photograph

I find great little wooden picture frames at the dollar store, flea markets, yard sales, and even Wal Mart. They are super cheap and perfect to turn into this simple Sand Dollar frame craft project.

So, the first thing I like to do is lightly sand the picture frame. Make sure you take the back off and the glass out.

Wipe off any dust.

Paint on a layer of primer.

Now, once that has dried go ahead and paint your picture frame in any color you like. The whole reason to paint this frame is that you can see it behind the Sand Dollars, so you want it to match. I like to paint the frame in white or cream milk paint to keep it matte and matching the Sand Dollars.

Once the paint had dried you can start to glue on your Sand Dollars. I like to use real Sand Dollars for this simple beach themed craft project but you could use fake store bought sand dollars as well. You can find sand dollars at almost any craft store.

Don’t forget to cover the sides of the frame with smaller Sand Dollars as well.

Now, you should glue on a fun little ribbon on the top middle of the Sand Dollars picture frame. Look for a beach colored or themed ribbon. You could also choose a ribbon that matches your beach wedding colors.

To really preserve this simple Sand Dollar frame let the Sand Dollars and glue dry completely for about 1 day. Then spray on a coat of clear acrylic spray paint. Then glue on the ribbon or bow.

Sand Dollars are also a great size for really small picture frames because they can make a thin frame look more substantial. Be sure to use a really strong glue, like epoxy glue, if you use a thin or small frame! Hot glue may not hold the Sand Dollars in place if the frame is going to be picked up a lot. Epoxy or clear plastic glue will do the trick though!
