Secret Scent Expressions Deodorant: Review

If you are like me, you enjoy trying out the newest products and the newest scents or flavors. I often rush out to the store to take advantage of the newbies, but this is one that I wish I had just passed over.

I received one of the magazines that I subscribe to, and upon pulling it out of the mailbox I thought “Gee, this magazine smells really good, I wonder what’s inside”. Sure enough, there was a postcard with a sample of the new Secret Scent Expressions Deodorant. The scent was listed as KuKu Cocoa Butter and it surely pleased my senses. I thought I could really get used to smelling like that every day, so I might as well give the product a try- it’s made by a brand I trust- what can possibly go wrong?

During my regular trip to Wal-Mart, I thought I would swing by the deodorant aisle and pick up the KuKu Cocoa Butter deodorant to give it a try. Before I left the aisle, I took a peek at the other scents that I thought I might enjoy. They have: Afrikan Violet, Asian Pear, Jasmine Orient, KuKu Cocoa Butter, Spanish Rose and Vanilla Chai available in the invisible solid that I usually use. The only other scent that I thought would be remotely appealing was the Vanilla Chai, but I passed it up since I wanted to see how well the product itself was going to work. I purchased a .5oz size to try, and figured that I could always come back and get the 2.5oz size if it worked well and I really liked it. I paid about $2.50 for a small size, and the larger size was approximately $4.00. The price alone was a bit suprising- I’d never paid so much for deodorant before, but figured if the scent was strong enough- I wouldn’t need body spray too.

Now, I’m not normally a sweaty person. My ‘pits’ are almost always dry to the touch and smell like my deodorant- not of body odor. The first day that I used the deodorant, I put it on as usual and went about my business. About 2 hours later, I felt my arm pit, and noticed that it had a tacky feeling. It was almost like it was sweaty, but it didn’t smell of sweat. I chalked it up to over-exerting myself and thought I’d just go and reapply more. Still, no luck. My pits still felt tacky and slightly wet, but I didn’t smell bad. I gave it a few more tries over the next few days, and I still had the same problems so into the garbage it went.

This is a product I wish I had passed up, and left on the shelves. The scent is great- but the product itself isn’t like the ‘good ol’ Secret original solid’. I’m not sure if the formula they use has changed, but the only thing I was left with- was the scent of the deodorant and some wet spots on my shirt. It’s a good thing that I’m only a stay at home Mom and not a professional out in the workplace. Imagine how embarrassed I would have been! They do have a body mist in the same scents as the Scent Expressions Deodorant, so maybe I’ll just buy a can of that for the scent, and stick to the regular Secret Solid.
