How to Sell at Flea Markets

The more you learn to sell at Flea Markets, the more money you will make. The first step in the sales process is visual. Begin this step by selecting your booth as close to the entrance into the market as possible. Choose the right side of the isle, if it is available, because people usually look and walk first to the right, then to the left.

The next step is to display appropriate signage in prominent places in front or above your booth, complying with your Flea Market’s policies. Use electrical signs if possible, because they can be seen farther away. This is strong advertising.

Arrive early before customers start coming in. Set up your table so they can see everything you sell , at a glance.
Provide ample space for folks to move around your tables and displays, as they shop. They need to pass each other with ease.

Don’t sit, eat, or read behind your table or inside your booth, unless you have a medical problem requiring you to do so. It gives the impression that you are bored, tired, lazy, or uninterested. Folks won’t be putting money in your pocket.

Greet every person with whom you make eyeball contact, whether they stop or not, with a genuine smile and a verbal hello. I say, “Hi, how are you today?” Those who continue walking will remember your friendliness and return later.

When a potential customer stops to admire a product, start your demonstration. If it can be picked up, suggest they do. If they hesitate, you pick it up and hand it to them. Let them hold it while you talk about it. The longer someone holds a product, the more likely they are to purchase it.

If the product is electrical and lights up, plug it in so the customer can see it’s full beauty. Have the customer turn the switch off and on. If the product has a nice scent, remove the lid and let them sniff. If it is a cosmetic like body lotion or perfume, hand them a tester and let them sample. If the product is jewelry or something wearable (exempting some types clothing) have them try it on and admire themselves in a mirror.

By getting the customer involved and participating in your demonstrations, you are creating desire, an emotional attachment. Emotionally involved customers buy.

Build product value. Explain how it is used, how it benefits the customer, and how long it will last. As you gain product knowledge, you will become proficient at this. Potential customers need to know the merchandise is worth the price.

Ask for the sale. Use professional sales closing techniques such as, “Which color lamp do you want?” or “Do you want this gift boxed?” When they reply with an affirmative answer, wrap it up!

Cement the sale by making the customer feel good about their purchase. Say something like, “You are going to love this” or “Your family and friends are going to envy you and want one just like it.

Always thank the customer and let them know you appreciate their business. They will remember your thoughtful words and return.

In summary, “How To Sell AT Flea Markets, is to find a great location, give superb customer service, work hard, and have a positive attitude.
