Review of Madras Pavilion Restaurant at Dallas, Texas

I am fond of trying various restaurants since I have migrated to the USA before around couple of years. I am always in the search of a good restaurant that serves only vegetarian, Indian food. There are many Indian restaurants in the USA but most of them serve both veg and nonveg items under one roof. Finally, I have been able to locate one restaurant that serves good quality authentic Indian vegetarian food in Dallas area during our visit to Dallas in Texas. This restaurant is located at 101 S. Coit Road #359, Richardson, Tx-75080 in Dallas area. The restaurant is in a very good area of the suburban Dallas. This restaurant is operating at three places in the State of Texas, namely in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio since last 15 years.

We visited this restaurant for our family dinner. We reached at around 7pm and were happy to see that there was no waiting. We were taken to our table immediately. We studied the menus and were very happy to find so many varieties of the Indian food. As the name suggests, the base of the restaurant is South Indian. The restaurant is serving fresh juices, cold and hot beverages of around 21 types, 5 varieties of light snacks as appetizers, 4 types of soups, 13 types of special dosais, uthappams, 15 types of vegetable curries, many side dishes of rice, Varieties of Indian breads, and finally, 12 types of Indian deserts. The range of the menu was so wide that we found it difficult to finalize our order for the dinner.

We started with fresh mango lassie and couple of appetizers like samosas and onion rings. As a main entrée, some of us went for various types of dosais and a special item of the day, Chana Batura. Couple of our family members ordered full North Indian Thalis also. The main items were served within around 15 minutes. We were happy to see that the proportions served in each dish were quite large. We started eating and were again happy to find the taste of all the items, very close to the original Indian food. It was not too spicy also.

Particularly, sambhar and chutneys served with the dosais were very tasty. There is a special kid’s dinner also served consisting of Italian dosais, Aloo Tikki, and the ice cream at the cost of $8 only. The restaurant serves special lunch buffet on all 7 days of the week between 11.30am to 3pm. The buffet consists of soups, masala dosa, mini Idlis, Uthappams, nans, 4 varieties of vegetables, 3 varieties of rice, and 3 special deserts. Such a huge buffet costs only $10 per head. There are special dinners served for 2, 3, and 4 persons containing all the mixed varieties at the cost of around $11 per person. The most vital aspect of the restaurant is the number of varieties served in a minimum time. The cost also appeared reasonable.

There is a special hall also available with the restaurant to arrange the parties on special occasions. The hall has a capacity of around 100 persons. You can select your own choice of menu for such parties. The restaurant is quite spacious and the table arrangement is also aesthetic. The hotel staff was also very polite and was helpful at all stages. The restaurant timings are generally 11.30am to 10pm with one hour late closing during the weekends. You are allowed to bring your own alcoholic drinks with you, as these are not served in the restaurant. We were surprised to find many Americans taking the dinner here. I think Americans also have developed a special taste for the Indian food recently. The only slight negative aspect that we could find was the cleanliness of the toilets. They were not as clean as they should be. Moreover, the location of toilets is also slightly odd as they are very close to the party hall and the buffet table.

However, all in all, we had a very pleasant experience during our family dinner. The total bill came around $65 between 6 of us. This really can be said great compared to the high cost at such other restaurants. Moreover, the quality of food was very nice and I would recommend this restaurant to all my AC friends staying in Dallas/Fortworth area.
