Review of Elfster.Com

My family and I recently decided to use Elfster.com for our Christmas party. In the past, we had always done a “Yankee Swap” style gift exchange at our party but after a strange situation with some dryer balls needing to be mailed out to California to an absent but swap-participating family member, we decided to try something new!

My sister was the one to set the swap up. She simply entered each person’s email address on the Elfster.com site. An important thing to remember is that for spouses, there needs to be two email addresses entered so that each one gets a name chosen. My sister was able to decide if certain people would be allowed to draw each other’s names. For example, we decided that siblings could choose each other but parents/children could not. When it was all set up, elfster.com sent out an email to each person revealing the name of the person we should buy for. This was fabulous. Nobody knew who had who and that was fun. We received our e-mails right before Black Friday so that the shopping could begin!

When any of us logged in to the elfster.com page for our party, we were reminded of the date and time of our upcoming Christmas party, the spending limit on our gifts and if anybody had entered any new wishes. The wish feature was especially useful. Before elfster.com, we never knew if we’d get something we wanted but with elftser, everyone was able to list things that they would like to have. We had a lot of fun with it, adding things that were way above the price range of our exchange. My aunt asked for a new roof. My sister asked for a puppy. My grandmother asked for a $300,000 camper with a storage space for her car inside the camper – a new car to go with it!

Elfster.com allows you to talk with the person you are buying for without them ever knowing who you are. You can ask anonymous questions like, “Where is your favorite place to eat out?” or “If you had to only buy tools from one store for the rest of your life, what store would that be?” The person answers without knowing who asked the question. Elfster.com takes a lot of the guess work out of secret swaps!

The day of our party, we all gathered for the swap. For us, we played a game where you had to guess who picked your name. If you guessed correctly, you got your present. If you guessed incorrectly, you would have to wait for the next turn to guess again. It went on for quite some time with a lot of laughter along the way.

All in all, elfster.com made our Christmas gift swap a huge success. Every single person got something that they wanted and everyone had a lot of fun with it. Elfster.com made it easy for us to set up our swap and it made Christmas just a little less stressful – and a lot more fun!
