Review of 100 Calorie Kudos Bar

With a very active household, my family is into snacking and usually opts for a good hearty granola bar. We have purchased oat and honey granola bars for a long time. We decided to take a break from these and opt for something a little different. Upon roaming the food aisles at the local Costco we stumbled across the Kudos 100 Calorie Variety Pack. These kudos bars are a little different than the fuller size bar as they are much smaller (about five inches) and yield lower calories. We picked up a box of these to accommodate weekly mid morning or late afternoon snacks for our kids as well as provide a late night snack for mom and dad.

Variety

The 100 Calorie Kudos Variety Pack yields 50 packages of granola bars. The flavors include fifteen M&Ms;, fifteen Peanut Butter, ten chocolate chip, and ten Snickers granola bars. These snacks are manufactured by the MM Mars Company hence the familiar candy bar flavors. I am not sure if the larger Kudos bars includes these candy brand flavors such as Snicker or M&M;, but the idea of combining granola with the chocolate candy bits sold me on purchasing a large box of fifty.

When the MM Mars Company created these bars they not only included miniscule candy flavors as shown in the popular candy brands, but also developed excellent peanut butter and chocolate chip flavors. The chocolate coating and candy are what seem to really bring this snack together. The bar really lacks in the “granola” department as the cookie portion is really just a conduit of rice, oats, and other trace grains. If your perception of granola seems to be a health food, then you might want to leave this snack out of that category. The 100 Calorie Kudos bar yields a lot of sugar and plenty of fat despite the low calorie spin.

Rankings

The peanut butter Kudos bar has to be the best of the lot. There is something very good going on with the peanut butter used to make this delectable little bar. The three to four bites almost seem to be a tease. This particular bar is dangerously good and makes me appreciate the manufacturer packing fifteen to a box instead of ten.

The 100 calorie chocolate chip bar is also a winner. The chocolate coating and chips are probably a big reason these bars have a rather high sugar content for such a small bar. I enjoy one of these as a mid morning snack with coffee. It definitely bridges the gap to lunch.

The candy themed kudos bars using the m&m;’s and snicker flavors do not really add to the party. These bars seem more a novelty as their flavor presence is barely noticeable, especially the Snicker’s Kudos bar. From a selling standpoint, I think the manufacturer was smart to market these two varieties as these two candies are highly popular.

Recommendation

I would highly recommend the 50 count box of the 100 Calories Kudos Variety Pack. The bars taste good at just about any time of day and the price is reasonable at about twelve bucks a box. For unit pricing that comes out to about twenty four cents per bar.
