Review: Emerson 19″ Color TV (Model #EWT19S3)

Even though I know there are parents who will frown on this (and really don’t care), we have allowed our oldest daughter to have a television in her room for the past couple of years. This is because my wife and I can only tolerate so many cartoons during the day and it gives us a break to watch something a little more adult when we want to.

The TV that she had in her room (one my dad gave her) died recently. Well, actually, it still worked. But, the color went out on it and the speakers were starting to go so we realized we were going to need to replace it. We ultimately ended up with an Emerson 19″ TV for her room (Model #EWT19S3).

I’m going to start out by saying this isn’t a brand new TV. I don’t have the money for a brand new television so we had to settle for a used one. I picked this one because, while not brand new, it was new enough to work with her DVD player and Netflix player without me having to buy an adaptor for it.

And, for the most part, this television is working out just fine for her. One of the things I noticed about it right off the bat was the color. It was much brighter than I was expecting it to be and the picture couldn’t be clearer. I say this because the television she had in her room before that wasn’t as good when it came to those things and this larger TV was a definite improvement.

I was also impressed with the sound quality on this television. Her other TV had to be turned up quite a bit for her to hear it (and we still couldn’t hear it outside her room). This one is much louder and we don’t need to crank the volume as much.

My only real complaint about this television is one I have with most new TVs and electronic devices. While you can adjust the channel, volume and a couple other settings using buttons on the television itself, you need the remote in order to access every function. For example, to watch a DVD, she needs the remote to put the TV on “game” mode. My daughter has a tendency to lose remotes for up to days at a time so it would be nice to be able to access modes like that using the television itself.

Overall though, I do think this was a good purchase for our daughter. As I said before, it wasn’t a brand new television. But, it does offer high enough quality where we can live with buying it used and feel like we still got quite a bit for our money.
