Recycled Wine Bottle Crafts

Recycle old wine bottles into interesting and unique one-of-a-kind craft items. The multitude wine bottle shapes and colors are ideal for home décor projects and make great gifts. Make sure to save the corks to make a homemade cork board or wreath.

Some wine bottle craft projects are best completed when theis removed. Soak the bottle in warm soapy water for approximately 20 minutes. Make sure to turn the wine bottle so the label is on the bottom. Remove the wine bottle from the water then peel or scrap thefrom the wine bottle. This process allows the label to be removed intact if you want to use it for other craft projects.

Create an unusual look in the wine bottle glass by storing homemade vinegar , vegetable oil, olive oil or flavored olive oil in the bottle. The thickness of the oil and the color of the homemade vinegar are enhanced through the surface of the wine bottle.

Make homemade flavored olive oil by filling the wine bottle ¾’s full of olive oil. Add basil, rosemary, dried chilies or sun-dried tomatoes to the olive oil for storing.

Make a lamp from an empty wine bottle. Drill a ½-inch hole in the back of the wine bottle with a 1/2-inch glass drill bit. Insert a 25 or 50 count string of lights through the hole into the bottle. Add a bow around the neck for an unusual and romantic light.

Cut the wine bottle, with a glass cutter, to create a hurricane lamp, wine glasses, or glass candle holder. Cut the neck and the bottom off the wine bottle to create a hurricane lamp. Drill two small holes opposite one another to add a wire handle. Cut the neck off a wine bottle and glue it to the bottom section to create a wine glass. Make sure to sand the edges of the cut glass to a smooth rounded surface. Make a glass candle holder by cutting the neck from the wine bottle then adding a wire handle for easy portability.

Make a bottle tree from different colored wine bottles. Cut a 4-by-4 base 6-feet long. Sink the base 2-feet into the ground. Hammer 6-inch nails/spikes around the 4-by-4 to create holders for the bottles. Make sure to angle the nails/spikes so the bottles will sit securely on the bottle tree.

Use the wine bottle to hold sand, small seashells, pebbles, marbles, buttons and other small objects. Insert a sprig of artificial or dried flowers in the neck for added dimension.

Make a message board from an empty wine bottle by painting three to five layers of chalkboard paint on the surface of the bottle. Allow the chalkboard paint to dry one hour between coats. Rub the entire surface of the bottle with chalk then wipe off. These cures the chalkboard paint and provides a good surface for leaving messages or notes.
